That recent counter-intuitive @cgdev.org piece by Bahar and Hausmann suffers fatal flaws, starting with a Stata programming error. We fall back on the intuitive conclusion that U.S. economic conditions drive encounters at the border

We show that their results are driven by a flawed empirical specification that appears to be the result of a coding error.

At least this
If you're not willing to arrest the killer, don't arrest the demonstrators.
Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey says 29 people were arrested in downtown last night during a noise demonstration at a hotel reportedly housing ICE agents: "For those that are taking the bait and causing property damage or otherwise, there are consequences. We're holding the line here all the way."

Renee Good committed gender insubordination: she didn't cower & grovel to male authority. Many women are killed for the very same reason all over the world. We just call it by the euphemism "domestic violence" instead of what it is: a campaign of political terrorism in which any man can participate.
When Renee Good said "I'm not mad at you" what the ICE goon heard was "I'm not scared of you."

That's what enraged him. The populace wasn't fully terrorized and cowed into submission yet, so he acted to make that happen.
Trump talks about Denmark and Greenland just now: "The fact that they landed a boat there 500 years ago doesn't mean that they own the land."

So… Congress cannot delegate war powers to the executive. OK, seems like a win to me
JD Vance: "The War Powers Act is fundamentally a fake and unconstitutional law"
JD Vance: "The War Powers Act is fundamentally a fake and unconstitutional law"
Dems are still approaching this wrong. I just saw a BBC host ask a state senator if Tim Walz should call out the National Guard.

He says, "No, because Minnesotans know how to protest peacefully."

THAT'S NOT WHO THE GUARD IS FOR. THE GUARD IS TO PROTECT THE PROTESTERS FROM LAWLESS FEDERAL AGENTS.

This is a great place to start. Casablanca came out in 1942. When they filmed this, they did not know how the war would end.

So I guess this answers the question of where Polymarket would get the funds to pay
Polymarket is disputing that the US mission to capture Nicolás Maduro constituted an "invasion", refusing to pay out bets on a contract with $10.5M in wagers (Financial Times)

No no. Obviously he was amazing and clearly he’d be great for Lucasfilm if he kept making movies there. But he’d be so limited. Let the man do what he wants and if he wants more Lucasfilm then great

Exactly. The point of having Constitutional checks and balances is to fucking check and balance

Impeachment isn't a tactic, and it's not a matter of practicality.

It's an unambiguous duty. You don't do it because it's smart, you do it because that is what you swore to do.

I see it’s that time of the month again

Don’t think this will raise his blood pressure any

I absolutely hate this line. Congress doesn’t get to define what is and is not war

Acts of war don’t become not-war just because Congress didn’t authorize them
#USA is not at war with #Venezuela unless and until it is authorized by an act of Congress.

Until then, it is an unconstitutional action of 47 involving the DoD in an illegal move in Venezuela.

The people of USA have not authorized a war. Far from it.

Whaddya doing here @vanhollen.senate.gov

You don’t have to be bad on this
🚨‼️As of yesterday KOSA is at 64 cosponsors with @vanhollen.senate.gov + @kim.senate.gov - who claim to support LGTBQ+ rights but are clearly okay with supporting legislation that’ll censor us off the internet- newly signed on.

You know what to do: www.stopkosa.com
Q: Rodriguez called it a 'kidnapping' of Maduro

TRUMP: That's alright. That's not a bad term.
Q: You've talked about returning some control to American companies. Did that play at all into your decision to capture Maduro?

TRUMP: No. What really played is the fact he sent millions of people into our country from prisons and mental institutions

Awww. How is he doing, anyway?
yep. i can identify any number of structural issues but at the end of the day the basic problem is the republican party. this has been apparent for at least 20 years. it is also an incredibly unpopular observation to make among “serious” people.
Right.

If you want a good explanation of why the American system of government worked well enough for 200 years and then suddenly stopped, it's because Republicans in Congress suddenly started letting their partisan interests COMPLETELY override their institutional interests
a lot of problems wouldn't exist if we had a congress with even an ounce of self interest

Congress can’t keep calling itself a coequal branch while acting like a spectator. If it won’t defend its constitutional role, this president will gladly take it.

So a lot of the charges against Maduro are either cocaine importation, which Trump pardoned Hernandez for, or owning machine guns, which is a constitutionally protected right in the US

You may not but I do

For those keeping track at home: Since Christmas Eve the United States has bombed or carried out raids in Syria, Somalia, Nigeria and now Venezuela. And Congress' response has ranged from nothing to support.
