First of all, that's despicable. It's never acceptable to lie about using deadly force on anyone.

Second, here are federal officers completely fabricating what happened when they charged Miramar Martinez with assault when they shot her five times.

"I'd like to clarify what you just said [...] no federal officer has lied about any incident involving shooting an American citizen. The story that's coming out now from three days ago is that two officers are on administrative leave for allegedly lying about a *Venezuelan* citizen..."

Now the editor is castigating her and journalism professors for not being “prepared for the workforce.”

This message from the US State Department about "not wanting allies to be shackled by guilt and shame" is a pretty direct call-out to the German far-right argument that Germany has spent too long feeling guilty about the Holocaust, and needs to move on and stop doing remembrance.

I was so impressed with this story about measles in the Atlantic -- the depth of reporting it would take to weave in all these details so fluidly.

Turns out, it was a work of fiction. She researched the effects of measles, but lots of fiction writers do research. www.niemanlab.org/2026/02/the-...

It shows her near the lone tree that stands on the detention center’s grounds, butterflies fluttering around it — one of the few places, her mother said, where children sometimes see something alive and colorful.
