One of the things I want to do during the #WinterOlympics is to make #biathlon more accessible to the uninitiated, so I'm delighted that @nbcnews.com have picked up my feature on the rifles used in the sport and how the athletes transport & maintain them:

How Olympic biathletes transport their firearms internationally
Biathletes from around the world have gathered in Italy to compete for the gold medal. But they went through considerable logistics just to make it into the country with their weapon.

If, as is likely, the Republic of Ireland are forced to play against Israel in the Nations League in Dublin, then not a single Irish fan should go.
Send a message to both UEFA and the Irish government - if you insist, we will boycott.
Pass the Occupied Territories Bill. Now.

Oh he'll leave a legacy alright - a minister that helped bankrupt the country, forcing thousands into exile, and then left the rest homeless. A gowl of the highest order.

The other day a Ukrainian volunteer at the #WinterOlympics cried as she told me how, in the middle of a bitter winter, people were saving their power of their generators so they could watch their athletes compete.
This decision seems like a slap in the face for an invaded and suffering people.

Micheál Martin will go down as the most incompetent, dislikable, divisive Taoiseach Ireland ever had. A vacuum of empathy for those he perceives as lesser than himself and his cronies.
The exchange between the Taoiseach and the Sinn Féin leader prompted Ceann Comhairle Verona Murphy to appeal for a "respectful" debate, given that the visitors' gallery was full.

Growing up in NI during the Troubles involved turning on the news most days with trepidation but i especially remember how the murders of ‘troublesome’ nationalist HR lawyers - inc also Rosemary Nelson - made us feel particularly vulnerable and not only unprotected but targeted by the state.
Leading Belfast solicitor Pat Finucane was shot 14 times and killed by loyalist paramilitaries (UFF/UDA) on this day in 1989, in front of his wife and children. A high-profile human rights lawyer, his murder highlighted collusion between loyalist paramilitaries and British security forces.

Why is the Irish government allowing an organisation effectively holding at least one Irish citizen hostage to use Shannon Airport?
UPDATE: This plane landed in Cairo and is now headed back to Shannon.

Previous ICE flights to Cairo delivered Russian dissidents and asylum-seekers to Egyptian authorities, who forced them onto planes to Moscow. At least one is now missing.
