It's easier to bring in a game rather than the "we sort of knew how to make these things but we lacked the resources and capacity to produce at scale" which is closer to the case

They didn't, I'll give him this one

My controversial take is that we should do nothing to persuade people who want to move to Dubai not to do so.

Sending this to *journalists* just shows how much Weiss doesn't know about journalism.
oliverdarcy.bsky.social
News: Bari Weiss just sent a memo to staffers at CBS News asking them to produce a memo explaining "how you spend your working hours—and ideally, what you've made (or are making) that you're most proud of."

One CBS News staffer puts it like this to me: "We just got Elon Musked."

Bold of Kemi Badenoch to go all "bring back Tony" but we are where we are

"We used to ring up our GP and get an appointment on the same day," says Kemi Badenoch. She does not add: we're all looking for the guy who did this!

Banter timeline says that following that, an SNP gov in Scotland pushes through a refb(because who's gonna stop them), Independence wins because of the mess down south, and you have that to deal with as well

Same goes for chickens. Vicious little creatures, murderous psychopaths that wouldn't hesitate to tear you to pieces if they could. Can't say the same for cows though. They just mostly vibe.

In fact, the do eat us when given the chance

i have met a number of pigs, including pigs i later went on to eat (we have small farmers in our family) and quite frankly, getting to know pigs has made me feel even less bad about eating them

they would 100% eat us if given the chance

Party donor Nick Candy says "I cherish the values we grew up with here in the West. But today you are more likely to find the values we grew up with in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.’

Imagine this happening in the UK and not having to sigh 'what do their parents do?' every time you hear about a new band. Wouldn't it be great to hear music from somebody who isn't directly related to the Lord Admiral Wythenshawe Bloodfeast MP, the Butcher of Bangalore?

I think a lot of this stuff is as simple as 1) the incentives to be interested in policy and to rise in a political party have broken very badly 2) and therefore the people who rise, who are primarily interested in elections, fantasise about getting an opportunity to do what they are 'best' at.

Labour has a majority of about 150. What is the internal turmoil this person imagines that would lead to a Labour PM voluntarily calling an early election. Because that’s the only way one happens.

Or to put it another way: what are these people smoking?

After a trip across Ukraine on trains that keep running in spite of Russian air raids, nothing says welcome home quite like those three magical words:

Really hoped this would be, like, "Satan" and "Witches" or even "Popish conspiracies" but turns out to just be "reconciling the worldwide anglican communion" as you were

A pub in London Fields is trying to put up a timber canopy over its outside seating.

The planning process so far has taken FIVE YEARS. That’s longer than it took to build the entire Hoover Dam. capx.co/nimby-watch-...

Reform is out there looking for billions going to trans performers or something, parts of the left are after imaginary empty homes to reposses, and the Tories have convinced themselves that the problem is human rights. This is all nonsense but easier than "we need to reform council tax"
yiannisbab.bsky.social
People are rightly laughing at this but pretty much every party and ideology have their little "magic bullet" ideas that are fundamentally bullshit. And enough people out there buy the bullshit because nobody wants to admit that governing is boring and hard and unpopular decisions need to be made.

I visited the apartment building ICE raided on Tuesday today. Story to come, but you can walk right in. Half of the apartments have no doors on them. Children's stuff abandoned in some flats. *Citizen* residents told me they were arrested and held for hours in zipties. This is America

Don’t remember who said it but this would fit the description of the UK as “a health service with an army”

Maybe they can get into it with fish pics?

In her lunch with the FT the OnlyFans CEO says her company pays more tax than the entire British fishing industry. Quite a stat.
