I'm Ian, an Irish freelancer translator based in Germany who overuses Spongebob gifs.

I've been on BlueSky for a while but always as a backup plan in case I gave up on Twitter. Which I have done now.

I also co-host a Blackadder podcast called Lord Of Adders Black: @lordofaddersblack.bsky.social

We're hoping to send out our newsletter today. The last one was in March, so no need to worry about being spammed with content. You can sign up on our website where I notice it says monthly, if we remember. We haven't remembered. www.worldofmoose.com

I've always felt that "encounter" is a lazy translation of the German "Begegnung".

When trade fairs talk about the value of "persönliche Begegnungen", they mean something like "face-to-face interaction".

By contrast, "personal encounters" sounds like they disappeared to the toilets for a shag.

This, my friends. This.
Google at its peak was basically the best information retrieval system in human history and they and every competitor decided going from there to “you didn’t want answers you wanted half-assed auto-complete 80%-wrong hallucinations” in a few years was the right idea

Dragon NaturallySpeaking has always had a socio-critical side that comes to the surface when you least expect it.

What I actually dictated was: "public holidays are not helping us".

Aw, Jimmy Cliff. First thing that popped into my head was his appearance on Never Mind the Buzzcocks, where he reduced the sometimes very abrasive Mark Lamaar to putty belting out 'Many Rivers to Cross'

Must have been pretty tricky with all those camera teams milling around, @brenkutch.bsky.social ...
Answered this on somebody else's post earlier. But this:

Even Squirry The Squirrel?
This episode's Scene Stealer is Miranda Richardson as the wetter-than-a-haddock’s-costume Amy Hardwood, a mysterious Northern beauty with a dark secret and an even darker hatred of squirrels.
