If I have one tip for people coming to Scotland, it’s this - slow down. Take the back roads. Don’t rush from the airport or the ferry to get up north.

There’s so much to see on the way. Here’s Forres, Dundee, Fife, and Angus.
A row of colourful beach huts face the sea. Two women are walking past, on the stony path near the beach. In the background you can see the hills of the Black Isle. Dundee railway bridge is silhouetted in the rising sun. The sky glows orange and gold, reflected in the River Tay. A row of cottages in a fishing village in Fife in the glow of the setting sun. They have red roofs and whitewashed walls - some of them are in the typical red stone that’s commonly seen in this area. A small country road lined with autumnal trees and shrubs.

It was probably about 2000ish - I recall going to an internet cafe when I was pregnant with my daughter.

A couple of years earlier, a friend came home from a semester at a US college and gave me her email address. I put the piece if paper in my purse and wondered what I was supposed to do with it.

some of you only started using the internet in the late 2010s or later, and it shows

I’m now wondering if there is work going on on a nearby train line. That’s where I’ve seen it in the past. We don’t normally hear the train, but sometimes when the wind blows in our direction we do.
lynnnothegger.bsky.social
That’s true. And it must have been so disorienting. You wouldn’t know what was happening.

I read that yesterday too. Shameful behaviour from them.

Nice to see the old kids drinking Buckie in a graveyard culture is still alive.

There’s a building site in our street and I don’t know what is happening, but there’s a car/lorry horn going off every 20 or 30 seconds. Not all the time, but coming and going.

I’ve friends in Chicago too, but haven’t asked them yet. They live in an exclusive, posh area of town though so I’m guessing they won’t see much of this.

How did I not see this - though it’s selective in what they show. Lots of fit young men. According to reporting, there were families with little kids.

It’s grim. I’m not a ‘lock them up for life’ person, but at least a couple of years.

I’ve seen other videos. It looks horrendous, and very scary.

I mean, I haven’t been following the case closely, but it just struck me that I’ve not seen any video. And that’s the kind of thing that goes viral and can move opinion.

This lurid headline is about British tourists no longer getting away with overstaying in Schengen. Or being 'illegals', as it's often called in the UK.
lynnnothegger.bsky.social
Isn’t it a bit weird that there’s been barely any video evidence of this? Or maybe I’ve just never seen it.

If there were helicopters over a building on my street, I’d be out there filming. Not saying it didn’t happen, but I think the outrage would be greater if there were images.

Monstrous.

"federal agents detained nearly every resident of the 130-unit building—including children and babies—placing them in zip ties and separating them by race into vans for more than two hours early Tuesday morning."

Good reporting on the South Shore raid from South Side weekly here.

Confirms one thing I was told but didn't put in my own piece because I didn't have a second source and it seemed too insane: border agents segregated arrested residents by race

I feel like this photo of masked, armed men pepper spraying a pastor protecting his community is going to be a defining picture of this moment in America for a long, long time.

I literally gasped.

Gonna be thinking about this lede for a minute.
(RNS) — Last month, the Rev. David Black stood in front of a Chicago-area U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility and spread his arms wide. Adorned in all black and wearing a clerical collar, the pastor looked up at a group of masked, heavily armed ICE agents on the roof and began to pray.

“I invited them to repentance,” Black, a minister in the Presbyterian Church (USA), said in an interview. “I basically offered an altar call. I invited them to come and receive that salvation, and be part of the kingdom that is coming.”

But when Black began to lower his arms a few seconds later, the agents responded to his spiritual plea by firing pepper balls, or chemical agents that cause eye irritation and respiratory distress, video footage shows. One struck Black in the head, exploding into a puff of white pepper smoke and forcing him to his knees. Fellow demonstrators rushed to his aid, and as the pastor rubbed his face in pain, the agents continued to fire.

“We could hear them laughing,” Black said.

Aside from the fact that you can see your partner on the loo - having a window behind your head when you are sleeping must be so horrible. Is there at least a curtain or blind?

And now she’s made banana muffins.

Things are going to be all right.

So on board with Instagram and actually all social media having an 'Elder Millennial Mode' that just does the thing it was originally for 😅
