Emilia @thisismissem.social is an independent developer working on open protocols like ActivityPub and OAuth.

She recently got some important OAuth work a step closer to approval at the IETF.

Support her on her support page support.thisismissem.social

So you might know my work, to support me doing that I need about €60-70k per year.

Year to date, I've received €17,150 in financial support from the community, and €11,400 from NLNet grants. So a total of €28,550.

Add in whatever freelance work I've been able to pick up and it maybe bumps to €36k

there is a concerning number of people who are unwittingly falling into both the type of behavior that created qanon and has been a stain on the internet for a long time. not enough people understand just how this type of behavior works, and it’s bleeding into mainstream social now…

some of you only started using the internet in the late 2010s or later, and it shows

who could have seen this coming 😮

Bashing SQLite is about the quickest way to out yourself as a technically ignorant noob.

The Bluesky PDS reference implementation has service millions of users at less than $0.001/mo per user for years now, with a very high degree reliability.

Self-hosting it requires almost zero maintenance.
mackuba.eu
Ah yes, the Bluesky infrastructure that famously can't support millions of active users, unlike the alternative implementations 🫠

The kind of shit people say here…
It doesn't help that Bluesky's software engineering at scale which made their magical techbro protocol a fine theory that everyone else now has to scramble to reimplement in a way that actually scales.

Take their P D S implementation for example... fucking SQLite backend. Trash at scale.

Some of the last reasons to stay on Windows have been gaming related. Both the time from installation to in-game and gaming performance on Bazzite are now actually better than Windows on many games, and living room usability is more seamless too.

500 thousand users on a single server. larger than any single apub instance (maybe not mastodon.social i can’t remember)

i guess mastodon needs to be sqlite backed?
