This is the first page of this morning’s edition of the Globe and Mail (arguably the English Canadian paper of record)
I don’t remember seeing anything like this before
A mostly blank page with the words Strong and Free, from the English version of the Canadian national anthem )
Below the fold of this newspaper sheet , in smaller type, news and editorial references to the trade war

NEW: The Washington Post has pulled out of an agreement to run an ad in its newspaper criticising Elon Musk. This is despite signing an agreement to publish it.

Democracy dies in darkness.

Here is the ad. Let’s share it far and wide! Screw the Post.
The ad has two halves. On the left is says Who’s running this country which a picture of Musk head back laughing behind a superimposed White House. Underneath is says “Donald Trump or Elon Musk.
On the right is a photo of a stern looking Musk with the words: No one elected Elon Musk to any office.
Is says Learn More at firemusk.org

Very sorry to hear. Sounds like an incredibly weak rationale

"Canada has been very abusive of the United States for many years." Just heard this 47 say this in a short clip on the CBC news. ????

The official "reasons" for imposing tariffs on Canada-- to stop the flow of fentanyl and illegal immigrants from north to south -- are baseless. In both cases: less than a trickle. Now let's talk about the flow of illegal firearms from south to north.

We stood shoulder to shoulder with you during horrible wars America. On 911 we took you in, wept with you, and tried to keep you safe. We have stood by your side through flames and floods. No thanks were ever required. Remember that. Regards, Canada.

Tosh and Ruth have come all the way from Shetland...

I had totally forgotten about that SBL session on the 25th anniversary of the Early Jewish-Christian relations section. Fun to reread your intro and also the pieces themselves. Thanks for posting!

So I wonder whether those who grew up in a bilingual household have an easier time learning new languages as adults, given that they must have already developed the ability to distinguish the important sounds for two different systems.

I notice the call for papers doesn't mention the costs that contributors usually have to pay to have their articles published in Religions. The cost is 1800 Swiss Francs, which is close to 2000 USD.

Jousting with John (a collection of 30 of my gazillion essays/articles on the Fourth Gospel). Meant for picking and choosing. Out on Dec 30 from de Gruyter.

We will see how it all shakes down this time around. The situation is of course made much more complex by the developments in the US,
which don't bode well for us up here north of the 49th parallel.

What are certain passages in the Gospel of John considered antisemitic? How can we make sense of them today? I spoke with @adeler.bsky.social about her jousting with the Gospel and why Pope Francis citing John 8:44 in a recent letter is problematic.
