Best guess is that maybe there was an English release planned at one point, so they recorded the lines for it. There's only about a dozen or so of them. In the end it never did leave Japan, but the recordings still ended up on the disk.

I consider the presence of the unused English voice clips to be a lucky accident at best, though they do help sell the authenticity of the patch!

It doesn't really "have english on the disk" in the way a multi-language region-detecting game (or even something like Wizardry GBC) does. It took assembly mods to swap out the voice clips, and I had to redraw the level briefs entirely. There isn't a lot of language in this but most *was* in JP.

As a final note, please *do not* upload this to rhdn. I remain banned on the site, and I refuse to allow them to use this or any future work for driving traffic. Essentially, if I'm not welcome on the site then my work isn't either.

Growing up I lived down the street from one of the two people who made this. They're family friends, and though I've personally lost touch with them my parents still have contact info. This cartridge was handed around between me and another kid on the street for feedback, and it ended up with me.
