TRUE ROMANCE - Really enjoyed this. It's got a great cast of characters (including a young James Gandolfini) and is both funny and thrilling.

NATURAL BORN KILLERS - I did not enjoy this at all. Awful, annoying characters and some atrociously OTT acting from Robert Downey JR. and Tommy Lee-Jones.

October began with a pairing of two Tarantino stories about two lovers enrapt in a world of crime. One is great and one is categorically not. And Tarantino knows which is which.

We're at £345 and gosh it would be great to at least hit the £400 mark before this is all over. Please help us out if you can. Thank you!

Whilst 'Manhattan' has been somewhat tainted now, it's still absolutely worth seeing for Diane Keaton alone. 'Annie Hall' too! She makes them both what they are. She was superb! R.I.P. 😢 www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

She was best known for roles in films including in The Father of the Bride, The Godfather and Annie Hall.

Well this completely shat me up! If you like your horror LIVE then I do recommend!

I was delighted to find John was already a fan of the show. He's a fascinating man to talk to and hilarious with it. I felt a bit silly for just assuming his act was a character, it's so not as black and white as that and this is another reason why I love making this podcast. Enjoy!

Here we go! Series 5! And what an opener we have for you. Episode 56 with special guest, John Kearns (Taskmaster, Top Coppers)!

Alex spoke to John about deadlines, saying 'Yes', and how he and Adam Riches have been pretending to be Ball and Boe for much longer than you might have thought... (1/2)

That's right! No weeks of build up, no teaser trailers, just a little nudge less than 24 hours before a brand new episode slides right into your lap. More of a French entrance than a French exit. Anyway, tune in (or whatever the podcast equivalent is) tomorrow! 🎧🥳

The new series lands in your podcast feed TOMORROW! 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉

Series 5 (Part 1) starts tomorrow - 9th October - with new episodes releasing weekly every Thursday up to Christmas. Time to get back into Character!

One Alex to another! It was brilliant chatting to @alexlowe1.bsky.social about all things character comedy and how mediums and palm readers are talking utter bollocks. Enjoy!

The next archive clip can be found in Episode 24 - My conversation with the brilliant Alex Lowe (@alexlowe1.bsky.social). Here he talks about his character Clinton Baptiste and how Britain loves a plucky loser. (1/3)

I was sceptical about THE NAKED GUN but it is hysterical! Faithful to the originals but it's not a carbon copy of them. The gag rate is rapid-fire and Liam Neeson is brilliant as Frank Drebin.

14 days to go until our crowdfunder ends. You COULD buy yourself a plate of cackhanded smashed avocado on burnt bread - OR you could invest that money in our Series 2 fund and get more bang for your buck when you hear what horrible delights we make with that moolah!

*Bonus* FATAL INSTINCT - I'd never even heard of this one. Carl Reiner did a spoof of 80s/90s erotic thrillers. The result - mixed. It's no 'Naked Gun' but there are some laugh-out-loud moments of physical comedy and both Armand Assante and Sean Young play it wonderfully deadpan. Sherilyn Fenn too!
alexlynch.bsky.social
DRACULA A.D. 1972 - This is campy Hammer vampire fun! Christopher Lee as Dracula in 1972 despite the fact everyone and everything in it screams 1960s. I especially love how the brass-filled funk soundtrack is so not what you would expect to have in a Dracula film. I am here for it! It's a hoot!
alexlynch.bsky.social
DRESSED TO KILL - Brian De Palma's unsurprisingly provocative erotic thriller with Michael Caine leans very much into giallo territory with leather gloves and stark colours. I actually enjoyed it more than I thought I would. It's an interesting concept with a DEEPLY problematic ending. (Prime)
alexlynch.bsky.social
TRAINING DAY - Denzel Washington took the Best Actor Oscar for this and it's no surprise. He is incredible in this, so unpredictable. Quality work from Ethan Hawke too. A proper heart-stopping, street-wise, crime thriller with a great cast. It's even got Dr Dre AND Snoop Dogg acting in it! (Prime)

GOOD MORNING, VIETNAM - I had such a great time with this. Just another reminder, as if we needed one, how insanely brilliant Robin Williams was. He is in his absolute element here! Hilarious! Also, the theme of censorship and not reporting certain news stories feels so eerily pertinent. (Disney+)

The last four films of September's Isolation Cinema. I'm hard pushed for a link here. I could say the theme of control or being controlled but that's quite a stretch even for me.

Now listen up, you beasts, this here is a great gang with a great show and if you haven’t heard it yet, you should! Go back to ‘EP. 1 - FISH FOOD’ and listen to all the main numbered episodes from there. Then give them some money, and do it within the next two weeks! We need more! 💀🔪🩸

Ah @joannaneary.bsky.social is a fantastic character comic who I met in Brighton many moons ago. It was lovely getting to chat to her on this and it's only listening back to the episode that I realised she still owes me a drawing of Silas Bibble 😉.

We continue to travel back in time to the Archives. Here is a clip from Episode 23 and our conversation with the wonderful @joannaneary.bsky.social! Here she talks about the origin of her beloved Celia Johnson character. (1/3)

*Bonus* - I re-watched SIN CITY which was a repeat viewing for me as a teenager. It's still a spectacularly made adaptation and impressively unique!
alexlynch.bsky.social
BABYLON - This film has absolutely no business being 3 hours long. There are some good scenes that serve well as shorts but overall it's disjointed and jarring and also tries far too hard to shock you. Brad Pitt and Margot Robbie are good and Justin Hurwitz creates quite a rambunctious score. (All4)
