although she certainly has some damages (lost sponsorships) seems to me like a Barbara Streisand situation. Tbh I'd forgotten about all this, the news cycle moves quick. So seems like an "even if you win, you lose" legal situation to me.

(someone paid to access the statement of claim that was filed, amongst other interesting sleuthing)

women have been giving men fake numbers for decades to get them to go away without being put at risk either physically or emotionally (man feels rejection is subject to debate). The smartphone era makes this a bit harder because the guy can fact check it on the spot.

this is 100% what happened 🙃

Rich talked at a woman in a bar (probably about AI) until she gave him a social media handle because she didn't want him to have her phone number, and then she got the hell out of there never to be seen again.

Agree, I like this movie for this reason. Levels up from abusive religious values parents who isolated her and blamed her for all the misfortunes that were largely caused by the dad’s incompetence

may you show up to your family dinner with your own food in a container without judgment or insistence that you should stop being so paranoid (stated by someone who thinks butter is a carb).
aliasjdm.bsky.social
I really did graduate directly from toxic sport environment ("we will schedule the hardest, most determinative of who makes the champ roster workout on Thanksgiving Monday, be prepared for judgment") to not being a real person for the purposes of eating so uh
aliasjdm.bsky.social
tolerable thanksgiving to all the celiacs out there, this entirely food-centric holiday is a rough one for many 😓

base rate fallacy is a journalism smh
theautistech.bsky.social
If an article tells you the chance of X is doubles or increased/decreased by a %, BUT DOES'T TELL YOU THE BASE CHANCE, it's propaganda.

Doubling a 1% chance is significant. Doubling a 0.001% chance is...less.

By not listing the base chance, it sounds much better or much worse than it likely is.

I will forever gatekeep the magical mystery ruelle nearby where I was once led by a 3 legged cat. Some things are too good to be spoiled by the internet. Some Montreal secrets must be revealed in live mode lest they lose their value.
aliasjdm.bsky.social
anyways mostly over restaurants at this point but sometimes I walk (or run) by a place a lot and it just reminds me that I'm Not A Real Person™ and idk that green lantern place always gave me that when I ran by in the evenings, esp in the summer lol

the real gem that I can only reveal now that I do not live in the area is the Petits Frères church thrift store, which is all of my most unusual home items come from. It has become gentrified since I left but you cannot beat the items.

I rate this as the second coolest restaurant on this stretch - Le Chien Fumant had a superior mysterious aesthetic

I didn't know mysterious green lantern restaurant on Gilford that gave me fomo for being the sort of person who could eat a a restaurant/wasn't me had a name but here I am

Would love to know how my cat (8 lb) would respond to a 15 lb rabbit.
Many years ago our old family cat faced a similar conflict when faced with seeing mallard ducks up close ("prey animal, but me-sized?").

for sure getting disbarred or having your license to practice taken away is a big deal consequence that shouldn't be given out like candy, but it's not like going to prison and you can still get a non-practicing job with the education.
aliasjdm.bsky.social
Yeah, while some MDs got cancelled professionally for their public promotion of anti-vaxx content during the pandemic prime time, this was actually an aberration.

This is a failure of the profession failing to police itself. Doctors and lawyers.
aliasjdm.bsky.social
ironically my cat does have to be on special food (she has IBD) but I know that has nothing to do with GMOs or whatever. It's genetic. Lots of backyard bred type cats (what my cat probably is) will have these types of issues because they are bred for aesthetic and not health.
aliasjdm.bsky.social
the wedding industrial complex is cheugy but ultimately not directly harmful in the way fearmongering about GMOs and toxins is. The ads also seem to claim that switching to this food will cure pets of viral or bacterial infections (??)
aliasjdm.bsky.social
on my drive back to the homeland, I've discovered that there is in fact a radio ad I hate more than Spence Diamonds - the non-GMO pet one with weird rant about toxins and pets getting cancer from some guy who claims to be a vet

unfortunately the Frito-Lay GF list page is down but IIRC it has a disclaimer to the effect of "page last updated on X, possible that there could be a discrepancy between website and package if there is old stock on shelf or lag in website update. Trust package if discrepancy."
aliasjdm.bsky.social
this is untrue in two senses:
1. Food and Drugs Act provisions about food claims apply broadly and include advertising and marketing claims, not just the food package.
2. Common law torts in contracts

I suspect that a lot of parents of kids my age don't feel acutely troubled because they may only have 1 kid that is in this situation. So while they may feel that the situation of inheritance is "not ideal," they know their kid in that situation will *eventually* get a home.
catelli.bsky.social
You'd think parents with adult aged children who can't afford homes would be a bigger and more vocal voting block clamouring for solutions.

But I guess even parents and grandparents are NIMBY about developments that would help solve this crisis.

Fantastic piece by John Michael McGrath on our "Families on the Move: 670,000 More Households in Eastern Ontario by 2051" report, and how the GTA is causing a chronic shortage of 3+ bedroom homes across the province.
