Radicalized by my friends and family who say they follow Jesus and believe they're entitled to their rights. Nowhere does Jesus say we are entitled to our rights. It's a lie white evangelicals are raised in, and it's the most un judeo/christian belief.

Exit pollsters in 2016 said they discovered a problem in their categories bc 'black evangelical' isn't a thing, it can be in a pinch, born-again christian is what Blacks use

one thing perhaps worth emphasizing is that under federal law an escaped enslaved person was a criminal. an "illegal," you might say.

This is what people who have litigated "christian values" since desegregation fail to see about themselves.

They have been in power, used their influence to see that marginal communities suffered, in sum, in disparaged diversity, they are responsible for the decline of civility.

The founders of this religion sailed away from persecution in the old in search of religious freedom.

They birthed it when they did to others (persecute) exactly as had been done to them.

They came from the bottom and put others at the bottom when they realized their power.

a key thing about vought — and all of these guys — is that they have a totally top down and hierarchical vision of the world. they believe that the cultural changes they hate can be turned off by destroying the federal government because they can’t imagine that they emerged bottom-up in society

What he’s railing against is a profound shift in culture, status… He’s obsessed with the idea that America is controlled by a leftist “ruling elite” - but “elite” isn’t defined socio-economically or by political power, it means something like: Getting to define “real America” and who gets to belong.

White supremacy only knows force; think about this, if to treat other others humanely is morally right, they have no basis to believe they are right to be cruel, unless...they can find someone who absolves them only of responsibility–god.

In this discussion, this book was revelatory. I was born and raised till 15 in a Muslim African country by evangelical missionaries of 54 yrs.

A black man in a suit just walked by me, I saw churches; so I asked him if he identifies as born again christian or evangelical, he said christian.

I have a lifetime of first hand experience with evangelicals and missions as one. A link to a title I can't read so much as a synopsis is unhelpful.

I can tell you enslaved Africans looked around & wanted to know how this land's gods functioned. They were given bear suffering for deferred reward.

to me, it's the height of deception to say true Christianity is about self-importance, prestige, influence when the founder preached self-denial: deny yourself, love others as I loved you, pick up your cross and follow me.

It's wholly illegitimate; why do we give it legitimacy?

I know white christians poisoned their own waters for power. If the defacto definition of 'christian' in America is patriarchal, domineering, punitive whiteness then it's no one's fault but the theologies we created to give structure our wants (beliefs).

It's 180° to Jesus's teachings.

Except black christians don't identify as evangelical. And Africans or Latin Americans don't. Evangelical in my mind is code for white.

If we want to talk theology, white christians excised the theology of suffering from their faith and handed it to the enslaved.

I tend to agree with you. As a 60 y.o. evangelical, we defined 'evangelical' as Protestants who agree on the centrality of the resurrection.

I've come to understand tho that our definition was more about liberating ourselves first. Every evangelical I know scoffs at LT as "works based"

When the KKK reached record numbers in Chicago, public shaming was the weapon of choice for those who wanted to take the Klan down.
To fight back against ICE, we must use the same tools.

Shame, Boycott, Exclusion from the community. That is how to reduce ICE numbers.
And we are with those tools.

Public Shaming Worked Against The KKK. It Will Work Against ICE Too.

We have to enforce what God's norms are to show that their beliefs are their own projects designed to enforce their ways (bigoted ways).

Ross Douthat treats this guy like they're having some deep conversation about the relationship of Christianity and the government, but the dude is a garden-variety dull, shallow, hateful, worthless bigot with nothing interesting to say, just endless riffs on "God hates everything/everyone I do."

Douthat: So that’s the first purpose of your political project, for America to stop making God angry.

Wilson: Yes. And most people think that when they are confronted with that project, they think that we want to get our tentacles into everything and start controlling everything. I actually think we need limited government. The government should be significantly smaller than it is, and we need to curtail a lot of the busybodyness that we have. That’s why I would call myself a theocratic libertarian. There is a true libertarian element in this, and yet, the transcendent grounding for what we’re talking about means that we acknowledge the authority of God.

We have racked up quite a body count of awful crimes, and I believe the only way out is for us to repent and turn to Christ. This would be things like no more Pride parades, no more drag queen story hours, no more abortion on demand, no more legalized same-sex unions — all of that, done. That’s the repentance part.

Trump's uncouthness shown a bright light on the threat. (He saw it too and jumped on it).

The net result of Trump's interference is that the take over wasn't completed before a new upheaval of civil unrest began.

Where are we? The Right securing a lockdown of power for 50 yrs, or a new civil war?

Premise: They were not ready to take back America when Trump threw his hat in.

They'd have been better off w 3 judges and someone like Rubio.

They have the ability to deflect every moral attack back on to the accuser.

What she's describing is what made MLKjr nonviolent protest effective. He got it from Gandhi.

It's laying down your life – putting one self at the mercy of your persecutor and not resisting their brutality. Let them beat you, shoot at you, bomb your churches, jail you.

It shouldn't be necessary.

We’re in a moment now where it would be worth people taking three hours to watch Gandhi, particularly the scene of the salt march. There is value to making the brutality of your opponent so plain as day that no one can argue with it. The clarity of that brought down an empire

supporting the poor *generously* is a biblical mandate...

not of 'good' faith, but for faith.

But in America, the values of accruing wealth and it's cousin bigotry have been designated biblical values.
