Thank you.

The Sisyphean battle of being an artist.
alliebriggsart.bsky.social
That comment was oddly deleted too.
alliebriggsart.bsky.social
Oh super system! There was a comment deleted too.

Someone saying "great cover" and then the OP thanking that person for helping them. That person is connected to a homebrew Patreon.

With "original art."
alliebriggsart.bsky.social
Hard to tell if people asked for permission. The subreddit rules don't give me green flags though
alliebriggsart.bsky.social
From what a few folks mentioned to me... this subreddit is littered with bad practice.
alliebriggsart.bsky.social
New things discovered.

New headaches unlocked.
alliebriggsart.bsky.social
Grumble. Grumble.

They could at least ask.
alliebriggsart.bsky.social
Also..... Ask 😭

Why is it so hard?
alliebriggsart.bsky.social
Isn't to say it's any better.

But the artist got paid and are no longer attached to rights (usually). Going after individuals just feels like "I can try this with zero risk and fear of repercussions."
alliebriggsart.bsky.social
Booooooo. I don't like wild wild west 😖 its already hard enough as is to survive.

I've known folks to use corporate art. Like mtg/dnd since it isn't owned by the artists anymore. Which is, poking the bear risk of lawyers if they decide the other person is a problem.
alliebriggsart.bsky.social
I have discovered they were referring to the subreddit rules.

Which, of course, do not have any weight over copyright law.

BUT! If they asked permission first and weren't advertising for kofi donations using mine and other people's art to promote themselves, I probably would have shrugged it off.

My Bronze Dragon & Dragonborn Gunslinger are by far my most stolen images.

Although a lot are for at home use, which is fine. I only hear about those at shows when people express that it added to their game visuals. It's never in a "hey support me via kofi - hey i used this image to get traction."
alliebriggsart.bsky.social
So what you're saying is that we're both going to go on barbarian rampage? XD
alliebriggsart.bsky.social
Yup!

Who knows. Could be benefit of the doubt, been told the wrong thing. But like you said. There is stock art available. There are sooooo many other options they had to choose from.
alliebriggsart.bsky.social
Idk my 7 years in the biz obviously means I don't know enough.
alliebriggsart.bsky.social
There are a ton of free resources! And many artists have things readily available. Hell! So many of us are happy to help an idea that we line up with, but asking first is important!
alliebriggsart.bsky.social
YEEEEEEEEUUUUUUUP

Very generous.
alliebriggsart.bsky.social
Also no... it is not common practice.
alliebriggsart.bsky.social
And look... it's not like I didn't try to keep the conversation open.

Pay. Or Delete.
They chose delete.
Email to request compensation for use of artwork or removing copyright image. "Evening, I have been notified that you are using my artwork without my permission. This image is owned and under my copyright protection. If you wish to have a conversation about compensation or payment for licensing my work for your project please email me at alliebriggsart@gmail.com - - If it's not possible to come to an agreement for compensation I am requesting removal of my artwork from your project."
alliebriggsart.bsky.social
Ya they already took it down.

It's just so infuriating. And the mansplaining... just rubbed me the wrong way.

My stuff isn't like Donato Giancola or Chris Rahn... but it's worth SOMETHING if they want to use it. Just pay me T-T
alliebriggsart.bsky.social
If you want to use ANY artwork an artist has made. Many of us are very happy to license an image for your use.

Artist's know that you like it.

Thank them with payment.

Artist's know you found it on the internet.
No, it's not fair use.

Reverse image search. Email them. PAY THE ARTIST.
alliebriggsart.bsky.social
It might not seem like much. But if ANYONE use ANY artist's work to distribute product for profit or not for profit, without the artist's permission, it's stealing.

I know there might be some people who will say, "but it's exposure!"

No. Full stop. PAY THE ARTIST.
