I personally have no experience with making things.

But I have ordered skirts from this artist. He makes some really pretty stuff. Could be a person to ask about the process. It might just be hand sewn and they order bolts of fabric.

I designed them and ordered them through a manufacturer. I'm not super familiar with embroidery terms but this version is called Woven Embroidery.
