My iPhone adjusts for when I’m out of the country. So while in the States and UK my shutter didn’t make a sound. It was kinda weird because I’m so used to the sound, I can’t tell whether I’ve taken the photo or not!

Oh for sure. Plus I find that older people are way more willing to use their English. I have a student who actively goes out to talk to tourists!

Source: Me! As an English teacher here and having spoken to maaaaaany Japanese folk, and despite their level and my assurance, they still get nervous talking to English speakers.

Not my usual post but noticed people heading to Japan for trips and whatnot.

So just a reminder, be patient! Not everyone can communicate in English like other countries. No need to speak slooooowly but speak simply. The simple the better. Also, use any Japanese you know. They’ll appreciate it!

Yeah, it’s hard! Because when they meet someone who speaks English they’re hoping they can practice! Don’t give up! Hopefully you’ll get to a point where you’ll be able to get by and they’ll appreciate that you spoke their language!

I have the problem where
I (with terrible Japanese) often get talked at but my husband (not Japanese but fluent) has to do all the talking and I’m pretty sure they’re trying to work out how this male voice is coming out of my mouth even though I’m not flapping my lips.😵‍💫
