How will we stay warm when the last of the ash trees fall? 🪵
Haha I hear you, anything is better than callery. There must be a planting in our town because seedlings pop up everywhere at our place :/ We’ve been grafting Asian pears on them & the growth is crazy, probably fruit in 1-2 yrs! Works having a tree plant itself & decide where it’s happy I guess.
With regular pruning over the next 200 years you could easily keep them under 100’ 🙃
Plant some nut trees this fall! 🌱🌳Bare root trees available for shipping, $6-10 each. Chestnuts, walnuts, hazelnuts, pecans, and yellowhorn

If anything I doubt they will ever try peanut butter again 🥵
Yes sleeping inside for now! Daytime attacks happen but less common, esp here they would need to get thru our 6’ deer fence w/ electric, down into a valley towards house & very busy road, then through the sheep’s 4’ electric fence. A lot of risks in daylight, I think they prefer not to be so exposed
Life’s mission to keep them safe 😊
We are definitely sleeping better also with our lil team inside for the first time! We keep a close eye on their multiple layers of elec fencing & trail cams but you never know! A little more expensive now supplementing with night hay, which we usually only give them in Dec-March, but worth it :)
We’ve seen a coyote on the trail cam sniffing around our fenceline for the past week, so the lil sheep are sleeping in the barn at night rather than out in the field for the 1st time in their lives. Getting used to the routine. Baited electric fence with peanut butter, hopefully that moves it along
Big sunrise, black walnuts piling up, bumbles sleeping in the saffron crocuses, sheep posing with some alpenglow #farm #sunrise #nuts #walnuts #saffron #foodforest #sheep
Sheep have been weathering the storm in the barn munching hay, but gathered outside for some pets this morning 😊 #storm #sheep #babydollsheep #cute #farm #friends
Fall stars 🤩 Chokeberries awaiting hungry birds, asters loaded with bees, a nice stand of little bluestem self-seeding in the meadow, and some wintergreen ready to refresh 😁 #nativeplants #meadow #flowers #berries #grass #wildlife #pollinators #gardening
Fall is in the air, first frost tonight, chestnuts are dropping and wary little sheep are getting familiar with their barn again after living out in the field for the past 7 months. #chestnuts #sheep #fall #frost
American persimmon season is approaching! A beautiful native tree that provides sugary Halloween treats for all while hosting many important species, including the larva of the incredible Luna Moth. We have bare root seedlings available for shipping at alpenglowfarmnj.com/nursery
Our chipmunks agree! For those who can’t decide we sell both 😉
Aww didn’t realize, such a cool trait but definitely not ideal when you want diversity in your yard lol
Doesn’t get cuter than Hammy in the fall 🍂💛 #babydollsheep #sheep #love #friends
Awesome! Such productive trees 😁
I hear you! We have lots of bottlebrush buckeye that someone planted here long ago (a nut producing Aesculus like horse chestnuts). Beautiful, so many nuts, but not edible :/
We have both straight Chinese chestnuts & hybrids (seedlings from dunstan chestnuts which are American x Chinese)
Once they’re on ground it works to just smoosh all of them with your boot, it won’t damage the nuts and is totally hands free. Thick gloves work but if you’re doing a lot you’ll inevitably get some painful pokes. In tall grass helps to catch or collect/move to centralized boot smooshing station
Hello all, just a reminder that you will never regret planting a chestnut tree. Still have some for sale at alpenglowfarmnj.com & will gladly answer any questions, we are just as obsessed with talking about trees as we are eating things that fall out of them. 💚🌰🌱🌳
Haha not so much fencing them in as keeping predators out
