Obviously some parts I'm less happy about, but it's on the better side of what I expected. I'm relieved! Sad it's looking a lot less positive in some other areas.

Very pleased to see my city retain Māori wards, elect Kaz Yung (who has worked so hard for this), and NOT elect either the awful transphobe or the dude whose one hardship was "a 2-storey house was built near mine".

Hoping Mele Tonga-Grant's election is confirmed, but it's a 1 vote lead so...

Argument was that they should all use a group organised bike bus instead. I said some would still need the bus. Apparently I'm car-brained.

I don't find bike routes safe for walking personally, but they're good to have where they can be implemented safely, alongside pedestrian infrastructure.

Discussion was about congestion with parents dropping children off in cars, and one of the counterpoints was there weren't enough bus drivers to serve all areas.

Someone claimed more bus capacity could be freed up if there was a ban on students who lived close to the school catching the bus. 1/2

Mostly, I find it helps with not drawing a blank on what to cook. The recipes on their site are often helpful. I do find with only 3 exclusions some stuff doesn't get eaten (I try to put it on a free shelf) but if you're less picky than us that might not be an issue.

Yes, we get it. Generally happy. Food is good quality (with occasional exceptions) and often not actually wonky in itself but an oversupply eg too much ripened early. Which may or may not be a positive. Quantity of each is a bit unpredictably though. 1/2

And I wasn't objecting to the bike-bus, either, I was saying "yes, but also". Argh!

Second time I've been called "car-brained" for saying not every child can ride a bike to school which is sort of funny given that I cannot drive and my household does not have a car, but also why do so many cyclists object so strongly to the idea some people cannot ride bikes?

Family member was posted up there in the 50s to oversee the connection of the first transatlantic phone line, came ashore just south of Oban.

I think? This is not at all my area! But only worth thinking about if you/your household already does, is my understanding.

Uhhh I am not an expert on this at all, but it definitely wouldn't be worthwhile for a newsletter. I've considered dedicated server hosting like this www.dreamhost.com/hosting/dedi... in the past, as an upgrade from my current shared hosting. Or you can have a physical server at home w a static ip?
Fully Managed Dedicated Server Hosting - DreamHost
Dedicated server hosting with 100% guaranteed network uptime. Managed servers with unlimited bandwidth, 24/7 tech support and up to 2 TB of storage.

Yes! I use Ghost which is pretty similar but costs a fair bit unless you have your own server already. If you need free Mailerlite is free up to 500 subscribers - less like Substack but you could make it work.

TODAY'S TIP: risk is a word for describing possible negative outcomes.

If you want to be more neutral, you can consider words like "likelihood", "chance", and "incidence" and phrasing like "... does not change how likely it is that a child will be autistic / be born with hair / a girl / etc".

Let's remember we aren't free or safe unless we are all free and safe. Leaving people with higher support needs or different disabilities behind in an effort to prove yourself worthy means all of the effort spent fighting for our rights means nothing. We don't win by leaving people behind.

You know what we really don't need right now, especially RIGHT NOW? Unions blaming neurodivergent people for existing rather than the government, that's what.
