I'm Andrew, a TTRPG game designer from the Pacific Northwest.

I published Girl by Moonlight last year with @evilhat.bsky.social

I've got a couple new projects underway that I'm excited to share soon.

Appreciate folks following me here (many of whom I recognize from twitter) over the past week.

Took a lot of inspo from Darkest Dungeon for my game Girl by Moonlight.
The tension of a character hitting their stress limit and usually breaking, but sometimes triggering their virtue was something I tried to replicate with my Eclipse rules.

If the game weren't so self serious, I might actually do so (also, the legal implications of using a still from a TV show as the title of my game are beyond my ability to comprehend).

Working title for my new game is this image.
TV still of a man in a hotdog with the subtitle: "We're all trying to find the guy who did this"

might bring some portion of it to playtest zero this week...

more video games should end with musical numbers

First playtest of new project went well. Play-storming works.

As I’m typing these words, Israel is illegally intercepting the Global Sumud Flotilla that is trying to break the siege on Gaza.

This is an illegal enforcement of an illegal blockade.

So I reached out to the Canadian government to see what they would do for the six Canadians on board:

New project is gonna have lots of fiction and pictures, I promise.

Uneasy Lies the Head is out on itch! Embroil yourself in royal court intrigue with this competitive, GMless roleplaying game where you get to play the monarchs and nobles squabbling to shape the realm in their image.

Are people discovering Hole?
I am a big fan of Hole.

Call for recommendations: I'm starting a new project, and I'm looking for things to read (or watch, I suppose, but mostly read). My starting point is Ambergris by Vandermeer, City & the City by Mieville, The Raven Tower by Leckie.
Would love recs of things that are in convo with those

So I just kinda made one circle around the perimeter of the event and then left. Very disappointed, would have liked to check out some games and talk to some cool designers.

which meant that no one would notice me trying to thread through the crowd in my wheelchair, and I would need to yell at someone for every meter of progress through the aisle, which I'm just not interested in doing.
Couldn't even watch other people play due to crowds etc. as well.
andrewgillis.bsky.social
It was pretty standard, rows of tables with computers and screens, chairs for people to sit while demoing, and the devs/whoever sitting/standing on the other side for the most part.
The aisles ended up being full of people waiting their turn, all looking at the screens as you might expect...

Tried to attend Game Garden today, which is a local video games expo/demo thing, and I had a frustrating experience.
Short version: while technically accessible, I was basically unable to do anything at the event as a wheelchair user because of how everything was laid out + crowd of people

You can count on me to stay focused on what really matters.

Here's a piece that means a lot to me. I spoke to @andrewgillis.bsky.social to discuss Girl By Moonlight, their Magical Girl RPG (published by @evilhat.bsky.social). The game is full of magic, heartbreak, and bittersweet hope.

Massive thanks to @wyrdscience.bsky.social for publishing this.

For real, if you've ever been considering reviewing / interviewing / etc. someone but stopped yourself because the book was released months ago... do it! We love getting coverage after pub day.
justintaylor.bsky.social
Worst thing to happen to book crit was getting mercilessly synced to pub dates. writer gets 97% of the coverage they're ever getting by the end of week 2, & if the book is widely reviewed (positive or not) in prestige places some of your would-be audience burns out on takes & skips the book itself.
