I have to be careful discussing CCS because of my work. But the reporting is often wrong. Insulation & electrification are essential but its very hard for UK to achieve NetZero without CCS for latency (when no solar or wind) and major industrial emission espec fertilisers and chemicals.
The Elizabeth Line is a wonderful thing. But that wonderfulness is because you can now commute from Heathrow to the city in 45 mins not because of the painted on clouds and brick panelling.
Too much architecture adds costs and excess materials but not functionality.
The service you can use because its built is more useful than the one you can't use because it was never built because of costs over-runs and architectural follies. Bravo to cities across France for getting stuff built by cloning designs not architectural statements.
Ask transit users if they'd prefer award winning architecture or faster / cheaper transit and they'll answer the second. Why can France build transit at a fraction of the cost of UK/USA/Oz? Standardisation and not treating public transport as a massive subsidy for architects.
I don't recognise corporate capture, as opposed to individual dumb decisions. All governments talk to businesses. Labour's best chance of re-election is low inflation, growth and near full employment so benefit cash can be redirected at health etc. That means working with business.
Mandelson was a stupid avoidable error. Starmer was an idiot to go near anyone closely associated with Epstein and deserved that blowing up in his face
Wasn't USA established on 1 pig 1 vote (or am I misremembering?)
Circumstances are unique: a deeply unpopular incumbent with Dem grandees supporting a sex-pest. Mamdami won on merit by being neither corrupt nor a pervert, he has both interesting and undeliverable ideas. Other than his high-energy local campaigning it's hard to see that this maps to UK.
Mamdani's win has zero practical implication to UK. People in UK will vote on satisfaction with national and local govt. Greens might challenge Labour in Central Ldn (as Lib Dems already do in SW Ldn) but not because of the NYC mayor, most UK citizen don't care. This is social media brain.
But according to the Corbynite troll tendency on here this is a reason to hate her. (I didn't vote for this govt) but kicking a cabinet minister because she had more important things to do than following US local elections shows them as the weirdos they are.
Making Corbyn look competent by comparison takes a special kind of genius
No I'm saying that as education secretary commenting on US internal elections of limited relevance to UK politics is probably not the best use of her time. There are plenty of problems on UK schools she should be solving. My friends who are teachers certainly think so.
Lib Dems are running councils across UK. Keep up.
Dear Corbynite left.
A LW candidate winning NYC mayor says little about UK politics. But one thing you could learn is that part of his appeal is he's a polite and decent guy who welcomes supporters. Insulting everyone who doesn't meet your purity tests repels others. It why you always lose.
Would these results mean House seats would flip in Va in 2026?
Can't disagree. A bizarre decision that was always going to end badly
Grow up. The hard left are such pathetic people. No wonder you lose every election because you are so utterly useless at persuading people.
There are 72 MPs across SW and SE England & around major cities, almost all in former Tory seats where Reform are now the challenger that show that comment to be utterly stupid.
Then vote them out. I'll be voting Lib Dem. But the next UK govt will have to interact with the USA govt on trade and security. They will not have to interact with the Mayor of NYC. That's just how the world works.
With respect, its exactly relevant to you point.
Fools like you are the reason the hard left always fail. Because if anyone disagree you just shout insults. Its one reason Corbyn failed so utterly because his most enthusiastic supporters were so obviously childish idiots.
No they have been running the UK. The UK and USA have high-levels of trade and cooperate on security. (However much I'd like to) UK govt can't ignore the USA or blank its govt.
It's interesting certainly. But is it relevant to everyday politics in the UK? I'd rather the Education Secretary was focussed on her job rather than commenting on elections across the Atlantic.
(as an outsider) also not being 97 years old must surely help. If democrats are going to seriously challenge in 2026 you have a lot of generational change to do
