There's also a severe selection on the dependent variable problem with these comparisons. The Times has looked at all the moderates who won elections, but doesn't include the ones who underperformed and lost. This exaggerates the effect size by roughly 2x. I did not cancel my New York Times subscription because of anything in the newspaper, though perhaps I should have.

I canceled it because their reporters and editors are arrogant pricks to their customers despite being ignorant to the point of being unqualified to cover their beats.
