for a patient who did like anime though but had never watched/read it before he got EXTREMELY attached and let me know that if anything bad happens to shoko he will crash out (when we got to the later volumes he was so heartbroken we just sat in silence for 10 mins)

For my older patients we're reading a silent voice to practice reading comprehension and also learn social/pragmatic skills and media literacy. Even my kids who didnt like anime/manga at first ended up loving it

it sucks that so many people look down on the medium like its lesser to conventional novels and stories when science tells us that BOTH are good for fostering literacy and different forms of learning!
