Cf. A pair of pitch black eyes, staring silently back at you, burning into your soul. Your pride wilting like a warm baby gem.

I think a large proportion of ChatGPT interactions could be achieved by rubber duck, at a much lower societal cost.

An observation test for you - for your inner 8 year-old

“The artist has hidden 12 things in this picture. How many can you find?”

Treasure magazine, 1964
Official answers coming soon

(Even if you don’t reply, could you please ‘like’ or share this one? 🙏)
Black-and-white picture of two children playing in woodland. Also in the picture, there are 12 hidden animals including an owl, a bat and a squirrel.

Is this real? It makes zero sense. The book isn’t mayo-scented, it’s garlic-scented (because vampires). The mayo has also been garlic-scented, so it doesn’t smell like mayo. So why bring mayo into it at all? Why not just have a garlicy book? I feel my grip on sanity loosening.

I’m sure the job comes with some pressures, but really, it’s James Bond. How hard can it be? An 8 year old could tell you how to make one.

We just need to give him a tea cup and take a photo.

Ahh I see. It was a young woman’s fault of course. Because of digital. Not the fault of the senior executives who absolutely did *not* spot it and did allow an egregious claim to be aired without checking.
Screen shot of article

"What was interesting is that because we now have generations of younger producers who are coming into the business - and they are digital natives - they're marinated in social media," he said on Insiders: The TV Podcast.
"Apparently, the story was put on by a freelance journalist, I won't mention her name, who put [it] on her Twitter feed. And no one questioned it.
"It's a low-level mistake but nevertheless, it is indicative. It was good to spot it, because what you wouldn't want to do is just to make some kind of egregious claim about somebody and it is defamatory."

If they can keep dangling the Nobel carrot till 2028 maybe we’ll all survive.

The ideal of democracy is Wisdom of the Crowd. But that phenomenon only really works for quantitative questions, and even then only if the crowd don’t share their answers - which is what polling does.

That’s true. It’s a wilful gullibility though, I assume.

I don’t even know how they factor Doyle into the whole thing. Maybe they conveniently pretend he (and his very un-Holmesian spiritualism) doesn’t exist.

This isn’t a gag btw.

Stephen Fry is a member of the Sherlock Holmes Society, which plays ‘the game’, which is a weird version of literary criticism where you assume Sherlock Holmes was real and all the events actually took place.

I would immediately write down Stephen's name just because of this #CelebrityTraitors

The only unrealistic thing about the classic Nintendo ‘Bobson Dugnutt’ list is that it’s not rude enough.

I mean literally - they based it on real life baseball players, and Bobson Dugnutt was actually Ron Tugnutt.

I think the ability to reach into your head and pull stuff out is the magic. And it’s impossible (even more so when it involves multiple people’s heads). I can definitely see the appeal of something that can do it for you, but I’m not sure what the result would be.
