I have actually. I've met many protestants, catholics, Muslims, Jews, and atheists who have all been very anti abortion. I have friends who were pressured by nurses into keeping pregnancies they wanted to terminate. I have friends who were pressured by their families to keep pregnancies. It's common

If only it was young boys that hated women, but it's not. It's older men too, and a significant part of the electorate.

But thanks for mansplaining my fears for my own safety.

As we have seen with how that group is funding the anti-trans lobby and funding cases to exclude trans people from public life, the far right evangelical groups in the US are already having a significant impact here. As is Russian funding and interference.

The point is not about America though. It is about the funding that is pumped into Reform and far right activists in the UK who are currently polling as winning the next election. The approach will be different here, because the country is different.

George, with respect, telling two women not to worry about something that would directly put their lives at risk is not cool. I've lived in the UK my entire life, I've experienced misogyny including constant challenges over reproductive healthcare for my entire life.

Either that or he wants food, hard to tell 🤣

He's a rescue and very sweet but he's never been a lap cat... until now!!
annasels.bsky.social
IMPORTANT NEWS: Alan is sitting on my lap without a blanket/quilt between us for the first time in the nearly 10 years I've had him!!!

It's not ideal as I've just had a procedure on my knee, but I'm the pain means nothing when he has finally shown he loves me!

There are non-private schools in Dublin?!
annasels.bsky.social
For Cardiff schools, it was Big Pit, Techniquest, or St Fagans. Slightly sad we never went to the Spontex sponge factory, I imagine it was like that episode of the Simpsons when they go to the box making factory.

There is a significant increase in misogyny against violence and hatred towards women and girls, made worse by the Tate's of this world. And that doesn't even cover the race inequality Black and brown women experience here. The idea abortion rights aren't under attack as part of that is naive.

It was a criminal offence to have an abortion in NI until 2019. Women's healthcare in the UK is terrible, with large numbers dealing with terrible gynaecological issues with no treatment. Crimes against women, particularly rape and assault aren't taken seriously, prosecuted or end in convictions.

I don't agree. I don't think religion is the issue here, misogyny and women and minorities being stripped of their rights is. It is less than a year since safe access zones have been put in place to prevent direct harassment of women seeking healthcare. Women in NI don't have equal abortion access

We have a really large percentage of faith schools in the UK as well. So even if as adults people don't identify with the religion, that teaching/indoctrination(!!) starts early and stays with people.

In my humble opinion you'd have to have been living under a rock to have not seen this coming. My MP @stellacreasy.bsky.social is very pro-choice & is constantly threatened and harassed by these people. Anti-abortion campaigning has been ramping up & we need to act now to stop it l.

The right-wing campaign group that helped topple Roe v Wade in the US is now working to roll back abortion laws in the UK, with the help of Nigel Farage.

Its first step? Trying to create a debate around "free speech"

I think a lot of people identify as a Christian (WASP in particular), even if they're not a churchgoer or know anything about the religion. It's just synonymous with being white and British for many people.

I know autumn is here because the cat now wants to sleep on my bed at night again.
A tabby cat stares slightly menacingly down the camera. He looks a bit like Mog, from the Mog books, with a white chin and white fluffy fur down his front.

I read a lot of sentencing remarks because I find criminal law fascinating (and other bits of law too). Because of a personal connection to that case I read them and then messaged every single person I knew who I thought might also read them to beg them not to as well. The most harrowing read.

I just want to book my holiday Hugo, is that too much to ask?! 😭

Disagree. Short haul is fine, but would never fly long haul with them after a truly awful experience coming back from California a few years ago.

I know people say how awful Ryanair & Easyjet are, but the British Airways website and app are *constantly* down, not working, showing error or high demand messages, won't let you check in or download your boarding pass, and recently just deleted all my passenger information for no reason. Useless.

Please enjoy this lovely mix of black and pinto beans.
Picture of the underneath of a cat paw against a grey blanket. The toe pads are pink and the paw pad is black. The fur is white and black.

Incidentally, this is a really good article by @jonnelledge.bsky.social that is well worth a read on a Sunday morning.

If I walked into my local pub and suddenly I was being bombarded by antisemitism and misogyny, I would leave and not go back. Why would I stay on Twitter just to experience that same hatred?
