The pattern is they fire a ton of people, say they made a mistake, and then selectively rehire back only the most mediocre white men.

This is why Black women's unemployment has spiked, the federal government used to be the largest employer of Black women until these monte carlo firings

New reporting: many apparently fired at CDC in 'error'. This is a failure by design given that the admin does not care about fulfilling agency missions. This is the kind of error that should have political consequences.

Unserious people cause real-world harm.

I noticed this too. The British read a lot of nature writing and other nonfiction in history, science, and quirky uplifting books. I WANT TO DIE BUT I WANT TO EAT TTEOKBOKKI sold a lot more in the UK than the US. Also, I suspect, INDETERMINATE INFLORESCENCE (I see the UK edition sold everywhere).

Fascinated by the shelves & shelves of nature writing in British bookshops, I bought The Golden Mole, by Katherine Rundell: prose poems of fantastical didja-know, draped in the antique finery of predecessors in the animal-describing trade from Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. An antidote book.

I feel like a broken record, but I have to keep saying it over and over again: a farmer bailout won’t do much of anything because the market is gone. There will be no incentive to plant next year.

The bailout will help payoff farmer debt to the banks. That’s all.

English is way harsher on repetition than Japanese, so part of a light novel translator's job is tweaking the wording so it says the same shit, but without sounding redundant.
