That one was hilarious. You could see the story picked apart on social media across the course of a couple of hours before it was retracted 😂

In fairness its a tipping point, it's shifted to this position in something like 20 years moving from a fossil fuels system in place for over a century

Personally I can't see that Blair/Campbell/Brown etc would have gone this route in 95'

Vote for future generations, vote for the places you love, vote to make a difference.

Have your say in our Annual General Meeting before midnight on 31 October: buff.ly/xI01XbS
A photo of a young boy in a blue waterproof coat looking up through a pair of binoculars at something unseen in the surrounding woodland scene. Text overlay reads: "have you cast your vote yet? Make your voice count in this year's AGM"

Isn't this not the point though? (Sadly). They don't have to be right about O&G in the North Sea, they just have to say they'll do it and that it'll reduce bills, such that they can attempt to counter Reforms proposals to frack and god knows what else. We in the real world think too much about facts

I tried BP Pulse years ago and I've never gone back...they've always had such awful reviews from what I've seen

Motherfucking wind farms…

I mean, this is moving into Rachel Reeves territory right. How many 18 year olds would feel confident investing in stocks and shares and leave such large sums to the vagaries of the stock market. We're a cautious nation on that front.

There's often a misunderstanding more fundamental than even this - many I encounter feel that the State Pension is some kind of big pot that they've paid into across a lifetime, so the money is already there they're just not getting it. They don't understand it's paid from current taxation

Better than EO who have just dropped support for my 3 year old charger making it 'dumb' G its

I get suggested news stories each day from Google, seemingly each day it's different stories about complaints about solar farm, wind or battery planning applications in various areas. It's always that they agree with the tech but it's 'not in the right place' so unclear where the right place is...

I've been blocked for I believe the first time on Blue sky. For explaining to someone that there is no massive NI pot to pay for the state pension and that it is in fact paid for by current taxation...which will come under increasing strain over the coming decades...
antonyrwalker.bsky.social
Please point me to details of the big pension fund the government is maintaining
antonyrwalker.bsky.social
That's not how it works. There's no big pot, some sovereign wealth fund that everyone's NI goes into. Pensions are paid from current taxes. And current taxes are struggling to take the strain and will struggle further over the next few decades

You'd think so. I think it's rather antiquated but others look at it as a workers rights issue. Question over whether the economic value produced is new or whether cannibalised from the rest of the week
antonyrwalker.bsky.social
But that's the point right-we can't afford generous state pensions.Spends increasing fast and the number paying for the pension reducing dramatically. You could effectively consider it tax by stealth really. They can't raises taxes for pensions, it's unpopular, so folk will have to build up their own

I mean, if they delay it forever then after 2035 we'll never have to see a Range Rover again...

@dwallacewells.bsky.social: “It took from the invention of the photovoltaic solar cell, in 1954, until 2022 for the world to install a terawatt of solar power; the second terawatt came just two years later, and the third will arrive either later this year or early next.”
4.6 Billion Years On, the Sun Is Having a Moment
In the past two years, without much notice, solar power has begun to truly transform the world’s energy system.

Sadly getting rid of the £20k was very unpopular despite the fact most the nation can't shove £1.7k a month into an ISA. Once again I think Labour have their comms all wrong. They framed it around investment ISAs and so that put people's backs up.
