Three thousand years ago, the planet looked much different. Large continents spread across vast oceans, giving shape to a wide variety of peoples, wildlife, and landscapes. Then, the Cascade came. Vibrant green meteors crashed down in overwhelming numbers across land and water. Mages, and colossal planetary guardians, called Omirim rushed out in eight directions to save what they could. While tidal waves of earth and sea crashed against their magic, they pushed, driving the land from behind them out into a ring to combat the onslaught. The dust of the shattered and burned meteors drove through their barrier, mixing with the magic and washing over them. As their gigantic forms began to petrify, the Omirim sang out in a funeral song. This song, this dirge, reshaped the world to save the small humans that were left behind. Where once were multiple continents and oceans spread across the planet, now sat a circular ring of mountain range reaching to the clouds. One ocean sat in the middle, thousands of miles wide in every direction, so that almost every bit of hospitable land rested between shore and mountainside. The surviving humans lived and rebuilt off of the space between. The Ring still managed to contain a multitude of environments, temperatures and landscapes in what was left. But the tumultuous restoration of the planet’s new shape brought on challenges for the young human population. As they built around them, they found that many of the flora and fauna from before had changed, somehow affected by the Cascade. New prey animals began to roam the land, both in herds and in solitude. With them, came new predators. But something worse than predators came as well... A massive petrified statue of a humanoid figure called an Omirim pushing against the wall of a mountainside. Above it is the oncoming evening sky full of stars, and below it is a countryside and the far off image of a city. The city and countryside look diminutive because of the scale, and the image perspective is set from out in the ocean.

The city that is godzilla goes to war with a living meteorite that towers above the clouds KAIJUNE DAY 30: EXTINCTION It came from the sky, screaming through the soundless depths, carrying the seeds of devastation. The earth screamed with the strain of the walking city. The sky rent by the explosion of the sea as the Seed rose from the depths and unfurled, like a terrible flower blooming, like an ancient predator stretching, like doom itself made manifest. How long had it drifted through the silent cosmos? What endless sleep had we interrupted with our reckless ignorance? What terrible joy did we inspire with this colossal monument to our pain? The twisted father was quiet, and in his silence his fear screamed. And we waited. Humans and our Academy of hope and pain. The Twisted Father and his hideous children. The Lord of the Grave and the offspring of sorrow. Waited to see if dawn would bring more than ash and ruination. And two mindless gods went to war.

A winged dinosaur shaped behemoth made from a city has wrenched itself free from the earth and stands on legs made of metal and stone and earth. Through it flows fire and lava KAIJUNE DAY 29: METROPOLIS REX It answered the song. The Gravelord sang, and the city itself answered with a roar of rubble and dust like every earthquake ever. A groan like the planet itself mourning, a cacophony of cracks like the sky breaking. Even from miles away from the city we could see it. A hunchbacked beast sloughing the earth from its back. And through all the chaos the Gravelord sang. A song of triumph now, of fury and bitter unanswered pain, the Black Ichor in its veins throbbing in time to the heartbeat of the living city. And above the din the song ceased, the earth still shuddered and shifted, but the raising itself was done. And a clarion call of challenge rang out in a thousand thousand voices. And in every mind we heard the answer. YOU DO NOT UNDERSTAND I AM NOT THE PROGENITOR YOU WILL WAKE THE SEED FLEE LORD OF LOST SOULS FLEE SPAWN OF SOIL FLEE

A monster shaped vaguely like a man covered in bones and spikes sits atop a a monster shaped vaguely like a horse, with 6 legs, and too many ribs KAIJUNE DAY 28: GRAVELORD It came with a song. Exodus was the only option. Hunter Killer knew too much. They had been the first, the first we had thrown sobbing into the titan fueled nightmare, the first to do battle for us, the first to be lost to our enemies, the first to return changed. Which of the others would be taken next? What further horrors would that horned bastard craft from their twice unwilling flesh? We made our way out of the city, decoy groups on the surface, others in tunnels expanded or freshly connected. Weeks of furtive despareate movement, they were out there and we did not know what they planned, but we had no choice. The city was lost. There is an absolute silence to a dead city bereft of human souls to fill it. In that cathedral to loneliness the sound of titanic hooves on asphalt echoed across the emptiness. Graveside was not dead, could not die it seemed. It had taken the Steed, after what titanic struggle had the titanic horse shaped beast been tamed we would never know. But the howling insanity of Graveside had fused its choir of grief fueled corpses to the unwilling Steed, and so it slowly wandered the desecrated halls of our monuments to ourselves. In the silent halls a chorus rose, a thousand thousand voices wailing in pain and fury, the song of Graveside. Winding through collapsed buildings and bloodstained streets, past the charnel pits and the battle ruined harbour, across the cracked and blasted streets, through sewers and tunnels and parks and homes abandoned - into the very bones of the city itself. And the Ichor stained city answered.

Following the seed of devastation on solar winds. A pinpoint of light in the distance of every conflict. A too bright star. A faceless watcher. To what purpose? To watch us fear and hide and scurry? To watch us celebrate our destructive potential and then recoil in horror at its futility? To watch the ritualistic sacrifice of numbers we cannot even admit to ourselves to the hunger of the Genesis Engine? To see children sent to war in suits of flesh and pain again and again and again? To see the charnel pits of our hubris and waste spawn things that even our enemies saw as nightmare? I am tired. Tired of the twisted creation and unfathomable destruction. Tired of the things we told ourselves we had to do. Tired of the look in our volunteers eyes when we send them to the Engine. The stage was set. And the Seraph watches.

Dreadnaught had laid waste to Graveside. The Twisted Father had returned. The Dead Man's Hand had been seen mutilating both the Highway and Steed, none the worse for wear for all the beating it had taken from the Hammer. There was nothing else to be done, it would be a battle, a show of overwhelming force, everyone we could bring to bear sent at that horned bastard, maybe we could wring answers from it before the tidal wave of monstrosities could decimate our paltry few. Yes, yes, we would have our pound of flesh, it mattered not the confusion, or the despair, we could do something - well we could send them to do something. We sent to the barracks for our tiny cohort of warriors. We found an unfamilair sight. They all looked to the direction of the sea, and they were weeping. This is definitely one of my favorites from the series.

A large ankylosaurid with a railgun for a tail firing a giant laserbeam KAIJUNE DAY 24: Dreadnaught It came with spears of fire. A lance of nightmarish light blasted across the landscape. It burned trees and buildings, raining ash on the city A great intake of air, a thrum of energy building to a crescendo and a beam so intense it seemed like a bar of liquid white fire. It was not directed at us however. It was directed at Graveside. We assumed that the titans we had made, these chimera, these Kaiju, we thought that they were the weapons manifest. But even as we deployed them once again it became clearer that whatever the plot of our visitors - they did not fear us. What we did intentionally was to be observed, studied, kidnapped for who could know what unholy purpose - but not feared. The things we wrought accidentally in our desperate attempts to not just defend ourselves but to assert dominance. That they found alarming. Alarming enough to deploy weapons that we could barely comprehend. A pit of mangled Kaiju parts and a thousand thousand dead, vomiting forth not just a tide of Black Ichor but both the Dead Man's Hand and Graveside, insanity and sorrow, the heaped corpses of a million mistakes. The embodiment of our callous expediency. It came with a lance of fire, our bitter enemies unleashed hellfire in fear of the blight we wrought in the name of efficiency and sacrifice and power. And Graveside did burn. It howled and thrashed and wept bitter tears of Black Ichor. And as the cleansing fire stripped layer upon layer of gnarled bone and twisted flesh it laughed.

A quiet voice, a young voice, firm and determined. β€œI will be next” We were at the Academy arguing bitterly about what was to be done. Graveside was on the field, and that meant that whatever had happened to Dead Man’s Hand there were again 3 factions on the field and we were short a defender. Hunter Killer was gone and by now we had abandoned the search, instead deploying our titans one at a time to patrol in a futile attempt to assert some control. And a voice cut through the din of engineers and military personnel - a figure at the door, framed by the orange glow of the corridor lights. "I will be next" Short, quiet, dark skin, too much hair on their head. The uniforms were a new addition, a rank and number designated on the shoulder, in the Academy they were numbers, names were hard for the engineers. We had decided it was better for all. Still, they insisted. "Three is not enough, I have spoken with the others. I will be next, I will go into the Engine." Command was willing, if the match was correct it was up to the Engine whether the subject survived the transformation or not and they were indeed a match. Gorilla and tiger, a good match, we needed a bruiser after all, some bulk, to fill the gap left by our loss. They were solemn, but a keen eye would see the spots of tears on the floor as they waited before the platform They walked in. The Engine roared to life. And a Savage King came forth.

The face is a giant skull with a beard of dripping hair, spewing spit and bile from the large jaws. KAIJUNE DAY 22: GRAVESIDE It came from suffering. The Hunter Killer was lost. Gone. Stolen. We had sent the others searching but to no avail. The Shade was in hiding. The Herald was nowhere to be seen. The Dead Man's Hand had either been vanquished or disappeared to its own unspeakable purpose. The Ambusher had taken the Hunter Killer once. Then we had seen - but what do you do when the lights go out and a colossal being is just gone like it never existed? And in the rubble and the mud of the pit something stirred with their pain. The other academy volunteers were inconsolable. None of us could fathom what it meant to embody a being of that much power. To be forced into the Engine again and again, to undergo that horrifying transformation again and again. And now one of them was just gone. Again and again they went into the Engine, and again and again they found nothing. And in the blood and Ichor of the pit something drank their sorrow. The three remaining Academy volunteers - no, not volunteers, veterans, they had lost a member in battle, they were veterans - had returned from another searching trip. They had collapsed, sloughing off biological material and Ichor, venting the Thunderers energy. Returning to their bunks and lapsing into bitter silence. And in the nightmare and horror of the pit the Graveside stitched itself together from their pain. And walked into the world trailing despair.

I gushed about it to every friend I have and recced in x, y, z servers and [...]' The writer or artist doesn't know this. They have no way of knowing that you found their work beautiful and lifechanging or even just a bright spot on a bad day or that you think about it every day or that you told all your friends about it, and those things are great but we have no way of knowing them! You may not be doing it intentionally, but you're excluding the writer or artist from the community feeling of fandom that you are carrying on (that is so great! fandom is a community! continue to talk and play!) even with their work. Please, please just drop a line even that is "oh gosh I absolutely love this work, I screamed to every one of my friends about it when I first read/saw it!" even if you don't have the spoons to share more of the specifics that made you flail at your friends or what you said in private. (Though if you do, we will love you forever for it.)
