...Growing impatient and highhanded waiting for music from @qobuz.bsky.social ... may be the most French thing I have said in a good while...

I believe this was actually "What the Internet was like before Sept 11, 2001"
What the Internet Was Like in 2001
Even in the middle of the dot-com bust in 2001, there are rays of hope: Wikipedia and the Wayback Machine launch, digital music turns legit with iTunes and the iPod, and blogging goes mainstream.

I have no "learnings." I've never had any learnings.

There are certain songs that are like your holy books. You can return to them at any moment and they restore your soul and light your next journey.

For me, Chaka Kahn's "Ain't Nobody", The Waterboys "Whole of the Moon" and Jimmy Cliff's "Many Rivers to Cross"

Sail on, sir.

What are yours?

Jimmy Cliff was as responsible for bringing the music of Jamaica to the rest of the world as Bob Marley and Chris Blackwell. What a voice and what a legend. He is gone. His gifts to us remain and are incalculable.

And finally... the great @erinleecarr.bsky.social

"In the next five to 10 years, that narrow definition of director is not going to look that way... I get those errant pitches, oh, we need a lady to do this. We thought of you and I'm like, get out of here. No thanks. "

My favorite recommendations from
@erinleecarr.bsky.social
on doc. directing (3/3)

- Do NOT be hard to work with.

THIS whenever I speak to young people. "Sticking to your guns" makes no sense if "your guns" are just "I don't like being disagreed with"

My favorite recommendations from @erinleecarr.bsky.social on documentary directing (2/?)

- Rejection is incredibly normal (everyone says that) but be prepared. Rejection opens the door to other opportunities, I promise.

My favorite recommendations from @erinleecarr.bsky.social on documentary directing (1/?)

- Dev 2-6 things at the same time....Don’t spend years working on something only to have it fall apart. Have a couple things going to keep you and your work safe.

While we're rolling with documentary recommendations here, I LOVE YOU NOW DIE (HBO MAX) is a favorite of mine by @erinleecarr.bsky.social, the true life story of a teenager who "encouraged" (up for debate" her boyfriend to commit suicide. Then he did. A trial ensued.

Because feeling old and ignored is painful.

Might I recommend being a complete useless mess in your 20s and blossoming decades later? Speaking for a friend (via @samadams.bsky.social )

After some soul searching,I know that if I am in the mood for mellow, stare-intospace music, I seek out jazz or classical. I've no idea why. When I meet a band in skinny jeans/electric guitars who plays "chill" music, It never works.

I wanna shout "I am Jewish! We are not "chill" people!"

While we are on the topic, AT THE HEART OF GOLD: INSIDE THE US GYMNASTICS SCANDAL (2019, HBO MAX), dir by @erinleecarr.bsky.social is the missing 30 for 30 documentary that should have been.

(3/?) MURDAUGH: DEATH IN THE FAMILY, 8 episodes on Hulu, showrun by @erinleecarr.bsky.social is about a series of unexplained deaths connection to a prominent SC family, a story that has been told to high heaven and this series STILL manages to make it seem new. A tremendous feat.

2. Patricia Arquette. Playing Maggie Murdaugh. If you know her from SEVERANCE or her Oscar win in Boyhood, this performance is a million miles removed (2/?)

1. Jason Clarke, plays fallen protagonist Alec Murdaugh in MURDAUGH: DEATH IN THE FAMILY showrunner: @erinleecarr.bsky.social . Clarke you may know from MUDBOUND or ZERO DARK THIRTY. He's unrecognizable here, as A. Murdaugh, and here's Clarke next to the real person.
