The recent whitewashing of #Canadian #Thanksgiving is really bothering me. I’ve never known it to not be associated with colonialism. What is this sudden push to prove how innocent we are? Because we’re definitely not. This doesn’t make us look the way some people seem to think it makes us look.

When he presented the idea of fast-tracking in the beginning, I had hopes. I believe the idea of inclusive, quick progress is critical right now, but not at the expense of Indigenous peoples’ rights. We can do both; we can move ahead with honour. @mark-carney.bsky.social Why aren’t we?

…that I have done something wrong or, worse, I am wrong for being human. I found it helpful to reject the notion that there is anything to forgive for having illness, regardless what others believe. It was freeing. Made me stronger when dealing face-to-face with stigma. 🙂

I hear what you’re saying. Important ideas, thank you. My point was about feeling like a person has to forgive themselves for their illness. On my own path, I came to the point where I realized there was nothing to forgive, that it was actually harming me, perpetuating the stigma in my own mind…

Or, from a different perspective, there is nothing to forgive for having an illness. If you had a broken arm, would you have to forgive yourself for it?

I don’t agree. The Thanksgiving holiday is rooted in colonialism, including includes genocide and manifest destiny. If people choose to celebrate good food & family, great. But why honour colonialism by celebrating them on that day? Maybe a different day would be more appropriate. Just a thought.
