Fun fact. The Latin word et means 'and' in English. The t of the et became the plus (+) symbol in mathematics. Another evolution of the same et became the ornamental ampersand (&) symbol.

Yesterday I spoke about patterns in Don Steward's answers at #mathsconf39. Coincidentally I was revising with my Y7 daughter this morning (she has a test tomorrow) & gave her two of Don's algebra pyramids. She was delighted to get the same answer twice so I checked the rest... :)
