Renson sale, 1924, lot 58-59: Fritz Thaulow (1847-1906), "Rio in Venice" (3800Fr, 38*46cm) and "The Bridge" (1500Fr, 22*27). No images. As these are typical subjects for him, it is not possible to identify them with any certainty.

Belial - Basket Case

Skee-Lo - I Wish

"Her boyfriend's tall and he plays ball,
So how am I gonna compete with that?
'Cause when it comes to playing basketball
I'm always last to be picked, and in some cases never picked at all"

Wanted to go back to my roots and post some interesting auction items here, but ended up bidding myself ;-) Meanwhile lost one book I thought I had the highest bid on, but was matched :-(, and have to wait for the result of a non-live, non-catalogued old book auction, bid (low) on these 4 separately

Daily image from my visit to the Museum Mayer van den Bergh: Master of the Sacristy of Kaufbeuren, "Coronation of the Virgin", c. 1490, 125*58cm. One side of a panel which was cut in two, and top end removed because of damage :-( Glorious example of the typical German works of the period.

Renson sale, 1924, lot 56-57: Paul Signac (1863-1935), 2 watercolours, "Port of Saint-Tropez" (1000Fr, 31*44cm) and "La Rochelle" (900Fr, 27*42cm). No images. Maybe first one is now in the Brussels museum fine-arts-museum.be/fr/la-collec... , second Kröller-Muller? krollermuller.nl/en/paul-sign...

All the usual suspects, from the 2 "Friends" and "Songs of Love" to "Sunrise", but also songs like "The Plough", "Three Sisters" and "The Complete Banker". Very hard to choose actually!

Daily photo from the Museum Mayer van den Bergh: Anonymous, c. 1510, triptych with the Virgin and Child, Mary Magdalene, and Saints Agnes, Barbara and Catherine. 119*170cm (opened). Seems good enough to at least deserve a "Master of" attribution, somewhere in the circle of Cornelis Engebrechtsz?

Other typical though less well known children's stories he wrote in those years: "The Smoking Skull", "Minotaur the Robot", ...

Ah, John Flanders, the Belgian Lovecraft... This children's book from the same year, "Ghosts on the Rough Heath" has freightened multiple generations in Flanders

Renson sale, 1924, lot 55 (no lot 54): Félicien Rops (1833-1898), "Carnaval" (not sold or withdrawn), 55*33cm, no image. I've sadly not been able to identify this work, would love to see it.

Then let me make a reciprocal recommendation; Mike Oldfield, Amarok. One 60 minutes long track, disjointed (and near the start with annoying sound bursts), full of whimsical, lyrical, or otherwise great snippets of music. 95% hates it, 5% thinks it's the best ever. www.youtube.com/watch?v=rwtf...

Cool, hadn't heard this one (I have an Italian 2LP best off of Morricone, but it's from 1973...). Huge Mike Oldfield music fan, so I hoped the Exorcist would come along on a day I was posting...

Fun auction sunday, French aluminum moulds for licensed pop culture plastic masks (1960-2000 or so), didn't win anything (low estimates, high results), but some real beauties there.
Mould for a very stylized Batman mask

Renson sale, 1924, lot 53: Auguste Renoir (1841-1919), "Young girl with flowers at her ear" (48000Fr), 43*35 cm. The most expensive lot by far. Dating to 1898, the painting is now in a private collection. art-renoir.com/artworks_ren...

The Pale Man – Pan’s Labyrinth

Terry Oldfield feat. Mike Oldfield - Dancer In The Void

Beautiful guitars and Pan (!) flute by the brothers, over some very mediocre synths. This could have been so much better...

Daily picture from the Museum Mayer van den Bergh: Master of the Legend of Saint Lucia (workshop, copy after a lost Dirk Bouts), "Virgin and Child", c. 1510, 39*28cm. Weird reflections not in original, just in my photo.

Renson sale, 1924, lot 52: another Monticelli, "Pastorale" (panel, 44*25cm, sold for 8000 Fr). No image or date. Impossible to retrace.

Tomorrow the most expensive piece of the auction!
