Renson sale, 1924, lot 53: Auguste Renoir (1841-1919), "Young girl with flowers at her ear" (48000Fr), 43*35 cm. The most expensive lot by far. Dating to 1898, the painting is now in a private collection. art-renoir.com/artworks_ren...

The Pale Man – Pan’s Labyrinth

Terry Oldfield feat. Mike Oldfield - Dancer In The Void
www.youtube.com/watch?v=cMdJ...

Beautiful guitars and Pan (!) flute by the brothers, over some very mediocre synths. This could have been so much better...

Daily picture from the Museum Mayer van den Bergh: Master of the Legend of Saint Lucia (workshop, copy after a lost Dirk Bouts), "Virgin and Child", c. 1510, 39*28cm. Weird reflections not in original, just in my photo.

Renson sale, 1924, lot 52: another Monticelli, "Pastorale" (panel, 44*25cm, sold for 8000 Fr). No image or date. Impossible to retrace.

Tomorrow the most expensive piece of the auction!

Vampire Gang - Near Dark

Channel Zero - Suck My Energy

Belgian metal heroes.

we've gotta feed on ourselves"

Daily photo from my visit to the Museum Mayer van den Bergh: "Nativity", c. 1510, anonymous (former attributions: Van Orley and even Petrus Christus!), 71*59cm. I don't know any other paintings which might be from the same hand, really peculiar.

"
Verveer, landschapsschilder, was toen 12 jaar oud...

Just learned through @artherstory.bsky.social that the Met will exhibit "Seeing Silence: The Paintings of Helene Schjerfbeck". I have recently seen a few of her works in Finland, and am quite certain that this will be a treat for many of you. Great artist! www.metmuseum.org/exhibitions/...
Seeing Silence: The Paintings of Helene Schjerfbeck - The Metropolitan Museum of Art
This is the first major U.S. exhibition of Helene Schjerfbeck, featuring 60 works that highlight her unique voice in modernism.

There's also an exposition about Marthe Donas ("Donas, Archipenko & La Section d'Or") at the Royal Museum of Fine Arts of Antwerp, opened a few days ago. kmska.be/nl/donas-arc...

Makes me curious: would your library ever consider swapping such doubles with another library to enrich both collections? I know many incunables have minor differences in one print run, but do these outweigh e.g. acquiring a local title you are still missing completely?

Renson sale, 1924, lot 51: Adolphe Monticelli (1824-1886), "Young women and greyhounds" (10000Fr), 20*30cm (small panel). Typical example (making it harder to search), and I can't find further traces of it. Popular but not my taste.

Ooooh, I've never had such a nice compliment, why thank you! Cranach can have the same serial effect, though better of course. Sometimes it seems that every museum has the same two Cranachs :-)

Button Mother – Coraline

The Chemical Brothers - Galvanize
www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xu3F...

"World, the time has come to (push the button!)"

Probably the second most obvious choice after "The Hardest Button to Button"...

"And the winner is... Donald... T... usk!" Met een live cam gericht op Trumps gezicht natuurlijk.

More or less daily image from my visit to the Museum Mayer van den Bergh in Antwerp: Master of the Female Half Figures, "Mary Magdalen", first half of the 16th c. The Master is a prime example of the highly specialized serial production of very similar good but not outstanding works for the market.

Love, hate, lunacy, submission, and hunger. Sounds like one good day and the four horsemen of the apocalypse.

As expected, no time to visit the "regular" Bruges museums, closing at 5. But the cathedral was open till 6 (mainly dark baroque paintings), and in its treasury is a quite good collection of 15th c. paintings. Will show some of them in a few months time, here some teasers...

Probably no time for more posts today, work to do, but the view compensates a lot. Won´t be able to do any museums probably though...

Renson sale, 1924, lot 50: Constantin Meunier (1831-1905), "Resting miners", 1887, 88*70cm. Unsold or withdrawn. Meunier was best known as a sculptor but also made many social realist paintings. I can find no later trace of this work.
