SILS faculty says they “were told the new school will be “operational” by July 1, 2026. The University has not released a formal timeline.

The faculty member wrote that Roberts pushed for the new school despite lacking a “cogent idea” as to what the “School of AI” will entail, teach and stand for.”

UNC schools of data science and information science to merge, forming unnamed ‘School of AI’

SDSS Dean Stanley Ahalt will be made dean of the new school while SILS Dean Jeffrey Bardzell will stand as the University’s Chief Artificial Intelligence Officer and Vice Provost for AI.

“Reindeer dig through snow to reach the lichens, an important part of their diet. But as the climate changes in Svalbard, there are more freeze-thaw cycles that leave thick crusts of ice over the snowy ground. That makes it difficult for reindeer to dig.”

“Their data tells a clear story. The ice is forming later, melting earlier and getting thinner each year, and the snow cover is lighter. What was once a glacier 17 years ago has melted into the sea. As the ice disappears, more heat gets absorbed by the dark fjord water, contributing to warming”

In late July, Paul Ingrassia, the White House liaison for the Department of Homeland Security, arrived at a Ritz-Carlton in Orlando with a lower-ranking female colleague and others from their department. When the group reached the front desk, the woman learned she didn’t have a hotel room.

Ingrassia then informed her that she would be staying with him, according to five administration officials familiar with the episode. Eventually the woman discovered that Ingrassia had arranged ahead of time to have her hotel room canceled so she would have to stay with him, three of those officials said.
