What if Juno left Jupiter to get a closer look at interstellar comet 3I/ATLAS? With a couple of burns, Juno can get as close as 25 million km. Purely hypothetical, fun orbital mechanics! 🔭
Thanks @adamsspaceresearch.bsky.social for the research and trajectory data. @i4interstellar.bsky.social

A very interesting piece. Thank you for exploring this in (fascinating) detail!

I remember the Clarke’s short story. I also remember that when he wrote it, in the Apollo period, it didn’t seem outrageously implausible that there would be astronauts on Mars in 1984…

Nice!
A while ago I wrote a piece about transits of Earth as seen from Mars. It's often possible to see Earth and Moon silhouetted against the solar disc at the same time. There are periodicities, which I explored in (in retrospect, perhaps tedious) detail.

Transit Of Earth
From Mars, we could sometimes watch the silhouettes of the Earth and Moon transit the solar disc. Here's how (and how often) it happens.

Four-panel SMBC comic update where a woman is talking to God, asking where there isn't more intelligent life in the universe. God responds that there isn't supposed to be, and that by coincidence self replicators appeared and then developed the ability to suffer and now He's stuck with it. God asks the woman what she would do if worm civilization suddenly sprung from an old noodle dish in the sink, and she says that she would probably forget about it and destroy it accidentally while washing her hands, which God appreciates.

Nah, surely that’s just a silly off-by-one error. You’ll see, it will happen next month. Or next year. Or next century. No doubt! 😜

✨One year ago, on the starry night 🌌 from October 10th to 11th, 2024, we had the chance to contemplate the magic of the Northern Lights from France✨

One was to imagine that the universe “started” in a low entropy state. That’s actually what we currently think is the right answer! But Boltzmann is writing in a Newtonian world, 20 years before general relativity. He had a chance to basically invent the Big Bang, but never really followed up.
