I could say the same about you.

You're plugging your ears while I try to explain how the military takes advantage of socioeconomic conditions so you can hear yourself shout virtue signals.

We get it. Fascism is bad. Freedom is good. Unfortunately it's not a binary metric in reality.

I had a friend who signed up as a "military photographer" to kick off a journalism career. He was promised to never leave US soil.
He died in Iraq.

Teenagers signing up for the guard are not having those discussions. It's often the only available step towards a career or a means to an end.

I'll declare them an enemy when they carry out violent orders against US citizens. Until then, they're welcome to join the rest of us in restoring democracy

I grew up in a poor area. Every place teens hung out at had a recruiter bugging us.

They'd list off famous musicians who "started in military". Tell me I'd be a able to fly a jet outside of the Earth's atmosphere. Impress girls. Make my family proud.

It's not exactly a fascism sign up form.

Right. But the NG has not received orders to kill or even detain anyone afaik.

That's not to say they won't, but this mode of thinking requires assuming they're MAGA soldiers.

They're young people who chose the agnostic branch of military that typically helps fellow Americans.

It'd be exciting to develop tiny ESP32 powered AirTag-like-devices that operate on encrypted LoRa channels.

If stuck on in the wheel well of an ICE vehicle, you'd have a tracking system that would evolve into a technological arms race between the open source community and agoraphobic rent-a-cops.

Well at least identify that no NG has accomplished anything other than standing around so the press can photograph them and distract Americans from the president's sex-trafficking controversy.

Which is just slightly different than burning starving Jewish children alive.

You do realize that the National Guard isn't 100% filled with rich white guys, right?

For a lot of people it's literally their only way out of poverty, and they just want it to be over with so they can have a life.

These parents with jobs have the "free will" to choose a court-martial with 2 years imprisonment, permanent dishonorable discharge on their record, inability to have any employment by the government, own a firearm, mortgage assistance ban, etc.

• The vast majority of National Guard members have day jobs or are enrolled in school.

• Close to half of them are parents.

• They are being deployed in their own country while the public overwhelmingly opposes it.

• They are not even being paid due to the government shutdown.
