Texas friends, get involved!
It's finally ready! October's most anticipated release, w/ the possible exception of The Life of a Showgirl, is The Book-Loving Texan's Guide to the November School Board Elections. If you hate book bans, read this to know who to vote for and who to campaign against! docs.google.com/document/d/1...

We binged season one two weeks ago and have been SAVORING the new season. When David Giuntoli showed up my wife was like, “it’s EDDIE from A Million Little Things,” and I was like, “You mean Nick from Grimm!”

I know everyone is consumed with other news, but this is a big fucking deal: The Trump administration says that IUDs and the Pill are actually abortions.

Here's what USAID told the NYT about the $10m in birth control they plan to destroy.

For years my wife and I would walk down to Kendall Square, get ice cream, sit on the MIT quad, and count the moving trucks (waiting for one to get stuck on Storrow Drive). Happy Allston Christmas!

Considering what we now know about brain chemistry, psychology, and obesity, it might be interesting to see how much they blatantly and knowingly got wrong.
I did get hooked on it, and it didn’t help with my “weight-loss journey.” I seem to remember that the only people who managed to keep their weight off were people who either became trainers themselves or they started running marathons religiously. I will likely hate-watch this. Sigh.
At the very least, they should specify that we are Gen Goonies—That We Recorded On The VCR, So All The Dubbed Curse Words Are Weird. “I’m going to kick him in the dirt.”
This is madness.
CLASSROOMS WITHOUT BOOKS.

This is the fruit of SB13. Melissa ISD is forbidding class libraries, book bins, & reading corners after book banners forced the law over objections of Texas parents.

The law doesn’t require it. But we @TXFreedomRead told legislators it would happen.

State BOE Member Byrd recommended districts skip the review process and go right to removing every title on their shelves that has appeared on the state’s annual removal lists.

Well, it appears Volusia listened. Here are 10 of the disappeared titles we have been monitoring, now banned in Volusia.
Brilliant satire.
"Children understand the dynamic of a woman who attracts a fairy godmother through her tears. They cannot handle the benign existence of one class mom who attracted the other class mom during their first year at Oberlin."

When I was marathon-training last summer, I developed the mantra that “Sometimes you run with the weather, and sometimes you run against it.” Not about setting a PR, just finishing is enough.
50th #parkrun achieved! Hot and humid outside of Houston. What’s next?

NEW: A far-right ‘Appeal to Heaven’ flag was flown above the Small Business Administration's headquarters in DC.

The flag, a popular symbol for Christian nationalists, was waved by January 6 rioters and spotted at Justice Samuel Alito's vacation home.

from me and @telliotter.bsky.social:
I look forward to not reading this, but listening to @strictscrutiny.bsky.social hosts rage/rant about this in a brilliant TLDR segment.
On the bench and in her opinions, Justice Amy Coney Barrett speaks the language of the law. But she has given numerous speeches and lectures that help illuminate her personal outlook, life experiences and approach to her job. Take a look.
Justice Barrett: In Her Own Words
Off the bench, the Supreme Court justice has discussed her judicial and personal philosophies, having a son with Down syndrome and running away from television trucks in high heels.
