I hate the term “deconstruction” and don’t want to use it but YYH is so fascinating in how it becomes about the ideals of justice, growing stronger, etc. typical to battle shonens being unfulfilling and in how its decline in pacing, art, etc. ties into that in a way that makes it an endearing quirk

A small part of me was worried that reexperiencing Yu Yu Hakusho would reveal that it was secretly not as good as I thought it was for five years now but god it still hits. Such a strangely high level of emotional vulnerability for a Shonen Jump title by virtue of the circumstances it was formed in
