This legislation is part of a package of bills that will make it easier to build more affordable, diverse housing in Baltimore, making it easier for families to grow and seniors to age in place.

Complementary bulk and yard zoning changes from Councilman Paris Gray also passed today.

@bmorecitydot.bsky.social @jedweeks.bikemore.net Today I opened SR #25-00807235 because the pedestrian crossing at Linden & Druid Park Lake Dr is unsafe by design. Drivers routinely run the red at this key pedestrian gateway to Druid Hill Park’s loop trail and future amenities.

The third bill, scheduled for September 18th, is no less significant. It will permit the construction of apartment buildings up to six stories high using a single staircase. This makes it possible to build much more creatively, and densely, on small or awkward parcels.

The bills up in committee this week are big. 25-0064 increases the building space flexibility in all residential zones. 25-0065 eliminates ALL parking minimums citywide. Please, if you haven't yet, smash that link and tell the council: support these bills. secure.everyaction.com/81AL1uY6R0a7...

Thank you Mayor Scott for listening to concerns around relocation of the Sisson Street waste transfer facility.

We're hopeful the announced task force can identify solutions that do not jeopardize the Jones Falls or bike and pedestrian safety.

Since @bmorecitydot.bsky.social installed concrete barriers on The Big Jump, more people are walking and biking on 28th Street.

Pedestrian counts are up 11% and bike/scooter counts are up 15% vs. the same time period pre-install.

#BigJumpBaltimore is a corridor for everyone.🚶👩‍🦽🚲 🛴

It's important to note that some supporters of relocating the facility to the Jones Falls Valley like @odetteramos.bsky.social also oppose the most critical improvements that would keep people walking and biking safe.

That would be the worst possible outcome: a dirtier, more dangerous Falls.

Reminder to send an email about the proposed Jones Falls Waste Transfer station.

It's a bad location. But if the city insists on relocating there, specific improvements are necessary to keep people walking and biking safe.

Send an email reiterating that:

In Pittsburgh, they’re smart enough to treat their waterfronts like the social and environmental assets that they are. There are multi-use paths, boardwalks, parks, and abundant nature along the city’s rivers. Baltimore MUST do better than a freaking dump!!!

Supporting this relocation without a commitment to all three of these improvements is supporting a proposal that will lead to injuries and deaths of people walking and biking.

These are the bare minimum improvements necessary, and they should happen regardless of relocation.
bikemore.net
If this moves forward, the only safe way to implement it is to fully invest in all of the transportation improvements long promised in the Jones Falls Valley:

1) End car through traffic
2) Implement the Jones Falls Gateway
3) Install a sidepath from the switchbacks to Union.
