I believe judgment is a shortcut to mistrust, and that is its key weakness. I believe trust has to be earned, and mistrust does as well. Either way, we should never forget that trust is the only forward for us as a species. We should never stop working to foster its growth through our actions.

How often have you changed your mind about someone when you learned the reason they are the way that they are? Everyone has such a story. We usually don't know what it is, because it is that person's most closely guarded secret. Judging and shaming others is the way to make sure they never share it.

We've all heard "hate the sin, love the sinner" but a lot of us may not like the word sin, nor the insistence to love those who do evil. We DO need to realize how easy it is to conflate judgment of an action with judgment of a person, precisely because that is a highly effective defense mechanism.

Judgment doesn't do what we really need it to, which is to create better people. It creates lonely people, and humans didn't evolve to be lonely. We evolved to assist each other to overcome impossible odds. We malfunction in isolation no matter how "safe" we think it makes us.

I've been thinking a lot about judgment lately, specifically, the way we judge the unworthiness of certain people. We jump to it instinctively; therefore, it has an evolutionary purpose, and an obvious one: keeping us safe as individuals. The obvious problem is that humans have evolved to be more.
