They were going to take that kiss out, but Lucy insisted they keep it to show you cannot get HIV from a kiss.

RIP to both Karen and Alexis.

Oh shit! Xena got the Ixion Stone!

I love it!!!

My fav "Xena" effect will always be Pao Su and Ming T'ien warping into each other in "Back in the Bottle." Love it!

So you taught me something new today, which changes how I'd look at it now with that information.
bitchofrome.bsky.social
It was also more me wondering, "Can you just never use this look as it will be taken that way?" but then I wondered if that was a racist thing to see Indigenous where not because of racist troupes (if that makes sense).

But I also had no idea this look was based on actual real groups.

100% this is not the best place for this chat, try though we have been. 🤣

To be clear, I am not doubting you in terms of your view, just wondering more was that the intent of the creators. Even if it wasn't the intent, maybe they should have thought about it.
bitchofrome.bsky.social
And I love to chat "Xena" and to learn new things. 😊
bitchofrome.bsky.social
Oh yeah. That's a good point with the Voodoo being a common one.

I really want to find a copy of the script for the episode now. I am very curious what was actually in script now.
bitchofrome.bsky.social
I am the narrator in all the other eps, just not this one (it's Adrienne Wilkinson!). And I wrote them all. 😉

Either way, no, I don't say that in any of my "10 Things" eps, so it can't be me you heard that from.

Facts are facts! My friend and I still talk about how epic that run was!

I mean, come on, you had her freaking out Batman! I loved it! 🤣

Warrior Princess first aired: 03-13-95
Gauntlet first aired: 05-01-95
Unchained Heart first aired: 05-08-95

She was supposed to die in the 3rd ep of the trilogy, until Rob changed it (after Lucy was cast - Angel was only hired for the three eps)
bitchofrome.bsky.social
Wait, *I* said that in a video? I do not recall that at all. 🤔

To be fair, shit was a long time ago, so I might be mixing up stories at this point. Maybe Rob said that about "Amazon High," but I am pretty sure it was "Xena."

But I'm pretty sure the trilogy would have all been filmed before airing.

I should mention, I am also autistic, so I don't see things like NT do, so maybe that's why too. 🤣
bitchofrome.bsky.social
Oh, white casting is going to be a factor, for sure.

Calling other groups animals is pretty common among people in conflict with each other. While I get it's been use largely against Indigenous people, I wouldn't, by default, connect the term to implying a group is supposed to be.

I do not recall hearing the Greeks or the Romans coming from elsewhere (I mean, aside from obviously all of us coming from Africa). But, this is going to be too into the weeds to do with limited characters. 🤣
bitchofrome.bsky.social
Ah, okay, so real tribes did/do that, although I doubt everyone knows that. But then...it's a common enough troupe in Hollywood, so that would be reason enough to just...not.

I guess I was not aware enough as a kid, or now, to make either connection. Yeah...bad call, "Xena."
bitchofrome.bsky.social
This is a very interesting discussion by the way. 😊
bitchofrome.bsky.social
The decision was made before the eps even aired - that's why Xena wasn't killed off.
bitchofrome.bsky.social
It wasn't fan interest that did it. Rob made the decision. If I remember correctly he was sure someone else was going to rip him off so better to "do it first" and Xena made sense. She was originally supposed to die, but he decided she worked for this new show.
bitchofrome.bsky.social
Does a bone in the nose make it an Indigenous reference?

I am honestly asking, as I don't know. I don't know where the racist troupe came from. I suppose I could look it up... 😉
bitchofrome.bsky.social
I mean...I get that can be a racist caricature, 100% when a group is CLEARLY representing an Indigenous group, but if they aren't?

Justin Currey (the main Horde character in that ep) looks pretty white to me (I could be wrong though), but most of the extras play them are white for sure.
