P.P.S. A huge advantage the GOP base had in wresting control away from the old party bosses is that they could continually dumb down the message. AND, make it ever more hate-filled. The left does not have this option.

P.S. I should add that I would be delighted to see more lefties winning seats and replacing centrists. I am encouraged by a few lately. But I just don't see the mood for a big shift nationwide, the way the GOP did with the Teabaggers and MAGAts. Not yet, at least.

2/2 If I'm wrong about that, then candidates farther to the left should be able to win more primaries, and should not have to fall back on blaming the DNC. IOW, if the base you speak of is that strong, they should be able to scare and overcome the old guard, the way it happened in the GOP.

I am not persuaded that the voters want who you think they want. From everything I've ever seen, the left side of the Dem Party just doesn't have the numbers that the right side of the Rep Party does. 1/2

Yes, the GOP did have a transition period from the fat cats controlling the party to "the base".

But beforehand, they were much more loyal to W, and the image of Reagan, than Dems were to Obama. And after, fell in line with Trump, while Dems continued to fragment, and allowed Trump to win 2x.

Way back, when he was on the periphery of the Juice Box Mafia, I didn't mind hearing from him on Bloggingheads. Didn't often agree with him, but he could pass as one of those proverbial reasonable conservatives.
