Comrades, I’m inclined to tell you a story from my organizing days. In 2018, I was one of hundred of union organizers who had the privilege to assist with a nine-day, statewide, unauthorized teachers’ strike to save their schools from a critical staffing shortage. Buckle up, it’s a good one. 1/x

Senate Dems on the new NDAA bill:

We will drop our blocking of the anti-DEI & anti-trans clauses, and won't push to restrict the use of troops on US soil, either. But in return we get to propose amendments that stand no chance of passing a vote.

Brutal negotiators.

i feel like everything bari weiss does is treated like she's a network exec in 1973 when she's really just a LARPer at the helm of a particularly irrelevant brand while TV news is dying.

New: Bari Weiss booked Hillary Clinton, Mike Pompeo, and Antony Blinken for a roundtable on Gaza, her first major move at CBS.

Notably on a CBS call today in which the panel was floated, one producer also repeatedly emphasized the need to hear from Palestinians in Gaza (Weiss did not respond).

I'm thinking about NJ Rep. LaMonica McIver who was arrested for performing legit oversight over ICE detention facility in May of this year.

Grand jury indictment more than a month later. How many grand juries refused to return a true bill before that?

I’m not autistic, just a parent to an autistic kid w/ fairly significant support needs, but I personally find it very frustrating to see so many people fixated on preventing, reducing, or “curing” autism and neurodiversity instead of talking about inclusion + getting folks whatever support they need

Perry: "Chicago's history of strained policing community relations is extremely well documented, but also fairly nuanced. It's something I think state and local authorities understand extremely well, and it can be hard for federal authorities, and certainly those from Texas, to appreciate."

Thanks. I had heard estimates were low (hence the many ham sandwich comments), but I didn't know if there were actual data, or just guesstimates.

Grand juries are secret, so do we always know how often prosecutors *fail* to get a true bill? Genuine question...IANAL.
boidle.bsky.social
I understand that grand juries are secret, but aren't grand jurors allowed to talk about the proceedings afterwards?

Are there legal consequences if it's discovered that the prosecution actually told lies to get a true bill?
boidle.bsky.social
I wonder if there was a previous grand jury that refused to indict?

Ah, it's a new frontier in Republican lawfare: buying off noisome plaintiffs. :

I've been wondering why Dominion Voting Systems suddenly reached settlements with Rudy Giuliani, Sidney Powell, and One America News.

Turns out, it's been purchased by a Republican-owned election tech firm that insisted on it, per Axios.
