Today, Mike Johnson will continue to keep the House adjourned for the 71st day out of the last 83, with Republicans refusing to show up to work again to avoid having to vote on the Epstein files or negotiate with Democrats.

Imagine making six figures to not do anything you were entrusted to do.

…getting paid to not work while thousands of civil servants around you were getting fired.

…betraying those who counted on you to represent them, all to appease a wannabe dictator.

The GOP Congress is a helluva thing.

No way is that woman from New England. Because that's a freaking hate crime.

Reps control the Wht Hs, Supreme Ct, House AND the Senate, yet they're trying to blame Dems for the shutdown. It will be interesting to see if this washes. The only power Dems have left in DC is filibustering bills, so if they cave again, they might as well stop showing up for work & go home.

An elephant in the windows of Fortnum and Mason's. It consists of recycled clothes and tea towels from the store. Like I said elephants are cool.

Bonus photos of Kensington Palace sunken garden and the Diana statue.
A pond and garden photo. It's raining but very green. A statue of Diana Princess of Wales with 3 children stand in the sunken garden of Kensington Palace

Okay jewelry is done! Hope you enjoyed my trip. I accept tips, applause and compliments. But especially tips. 😅 especially since I'm technically unemployed for the duration of the government shutdown. Thanks to the #VandA and #Cartier.

One more #tiaratime. Emeralds this time. Again a convertible piece. Tiara and necklace. Might as well show off the emerald #Cartier liked that.
A diamond and emerald tiara. It's a graduated row of diamond points with a large polished emerald in the center. A rear shot of the emerald and diamond tiara on it's frame.

Yes, these last ones are convertible. Playing with colored gems are fun, I guess. This breaks down into ruby brooches. Loaned by Prince Albert of Monaco, as it was his mother's. And the engagement ring.
A diamond and ruby tiara where the ruby front pieces remove into 3 separate brooches. Princess Grace wore them throughout her lifetime A diamond engagement ring in 10 carats. It was featured in High Society as it belonged to Grace Kelly

Because some of you are gonna freak about the black opal #tiara from #Cartier. Great opals from the Duchess of Devonshire. It's a necklace too. Gotta love the convertible jewel. Honestly she probably got more use out of the necklace
An absolutely ENCRUSTED diamond and opal tiara. Close up of the opal and diamond section so you see the color change. The back and support of the tiara

One more convertible tiara! This one of the #halo #Cartier. Worn by the Princess Aga Khan. Certainly one of the most unusual tiaras. The zigzag lower portion becomes a bandeau.
An Egyptian inspired tiara. The flowers are lotus flower crafted in diamonds. It sits upright on the head floating like a halo. A close up of both the bandeau lower portion and the diamond lotus flower with the wings curved.

Another convertible jewel. I spent significant time trying to see the breakdown for the tiara vs bracelets. #tiaratime again Asian influence. Again a wall of diamonds.
Diamond tiara with an Asian influence design from #Cartier A diamond tiara that breaks into bracelets.

#tiaratime in pearl again! Indian inspired but also timeless.
An open metalwork diamond and pearl tiara with geometric shapes anchored between 2 rows of diamonds. It echoes mosaic floors in India. You can see the open metalwork and support of the platinum and diamonds in the tiara wings. And the large natural pearl in the center.

Speaking of Persian design. One of the most unusual tiaras in the exhibition. #tiaratime in turquoise. Certainly a triumph of #Cartier design.
A turquoise and diamond tiara. The turquoise is carved in pointed shapes in 2 rows with a diamond bandeau setting in zigzags. and the wings are lower than a traditional western tiara. You can see the turquoise carving which is more Islamic influence and tge curving wing anchors over the ears. Very Asian influence

So more Asian influence coming up. This, I always feel is Persian or Mughal.
A diamond sunburst tiara with a yellow diamond as central stone. It is a more Oriental design. A close up of tge sunburst tiara with the fancy yellow diamond and the radiating diamond arms in a wall of gems. Diamond wings of the Sunburst tiara showing the setting

More aquamarine #tiaratime. This is probably my favorite aquamarine piece there. Not art deco, not true #garland. Certainly later #Cartier with the colors.
An aquamarine and diamond tiara. It's vaguely garland style with ropes of diamonds and leaves. As well as the size.

I volunteer at a historical cemetery and every year they do an outdoor immersive history tour. What the public programming guy calls edutainment. And people really engage with local history, stories and larger history consequences. Plus it's fun in October to hang out in a cemetery and party.
bookgirl33.bsky.social
I'm not really sure what inspired this design. There's a hint of #garland. The synthetic rubies are intriguing.
A large diamond and ruby tiara. The rubies look vaguely like eyes and the diamond swirl in. The front of a diamond and ruby tiara. The gems are very big and swirl into the ruby mounts.
