Finally! Judge Paula Xinis of the U.S. District Court in Maryland has signaled she is inclined to release Kilmar Armando Abrego Garcia, the Maryland man wrongfully deported and later brought back by the Trump administration.

Trump has begun dismissing federal workers, with furloughed staff at the Department of Health and Human Services now facing permanent layoffs. The cuts are hitting the National Institutes of Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention especially hard.

Today, the National Guard began patrolling in Memphis.

A win! A federal judge has granted Chicago and the State of Illinois a restraining order against the Trump administration, blocking the deployment of the National Guard in Illinois.

Note: Incredible collaboration in stopping a massive data center project that would have consumed 2 to 3 million gallons of water a day.

A win! Much love to Indiana, so proud of you all!

The Nixon-style “Trump” enemy list.

This will almost certainly turn out like Lisa Cook’s case, completely fabricated accusations.

The monster is really coming for us all. General Letitia James has been indicted following Trump’s pressure campaign. She’s accused of committing “mortgage fraud.” The MAGA movement is weaponizing the Justice Department.

But sure “everyone’s smiling” as Trump’s occupation tanks D.C.’s small businesses. Sarcasm, of course. If nothing changes, Chicago may soon see the same pattern.

- Tourism is taking a hit, with conference groups canceling or reconsidering D.C. as a venue.
- Hotels report lower occupancy and have slashed rates amid weakening demand.

- In neighborhoods like Chinatown, business owners say sales are down 30–40% since the increased military and security presence.
- Many say the sight of armed troops, checkpoints, and “militarized” policing makes people uneasy, or even fearful of being questioned, so they stay home.

- Restaurant reservations have dropped by about 31% compared to the same days a year earlier.
- Local shops are seeing an even steeper hit, one report estimates an 81% decline in walk-ins after the deployment began.

MAGA says everyone in D.C. is smiling since the Trump invasion. Let’s look at some facts:

- Small retailers and restaurants report much lower foot traffic since the National Guard and federal agents began patrolling.

The loyalty purge continues. This week, FBI Director Kash Patel dismissed two longtime agents who had previously worked with Special Counsel Jack Smith, who led the federal investigations into Trump. Both agents had strong performance records, and no official reason was provided for their removal.

President Gustavo Petro of Colombia said his government believed one of the boats recently bombed by the United States in its campaign against alleged drug traffickers had been carrying Colombian citizens, not drug traffickers.

The ACLU of Illinois, joined by other Chicago immigration advocates, filed a lawsuit against DHS and ICE in March, alleging that the January arrests of 26 individuals across the Midwest violated a 2022 consent decree that bars ICE from detaining people without a warrant or probable cause.

Hoping these federal agents are held accountable, breaking the law should have real consequences. A federal judge has ruled that federal immigration agents illegally arrested more than two dozen people.

In the United States, states have sovereignty and the military is not meant to police civilians. The narrative Trump is pushing about “lawless Democratic cities” is pure political theater. He’s deliberately targeting top Democratic strongholds, not areas that actually face higher crime rates.

If Chicago were truly the “war zone” he describes, would anyone even have time for brunch?

The truth is simple: ICE isn’t welcome in Chicago. When you send federal agents into communities that don’t want them there, of course there will be resistance.

Trump posted on Truth Social this morning claiming that Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson and Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker should be jailed for “failing to protect ICE officers.” Seriously? ICE officers are upset they can’t use restrooms or grab brunch.
