Safe streets in Oxford … with accompanying quotes from a car-loving councillor. Please share!
Two elderly people hold hands as they cross a road junction, one using a walking stick.

Caption: ‘… a few indulged individuals can enjoy a quiet road that was never an expectation when they happily moved into their homes.’ Children and adults cycling through a Low Traffic Neighbourhood with a green ‘ROAD OPEN’ sign

Caption: ‘they continue to ignore the devastation and misery this has brought to so many.’

A timely announcement as Oxford University rolls out ChatGPT Edu to the student body, 99.9% of whom are over 18:

Oh good, ChatGPT is getting "erotica for verified adults" later this year
We made ChatGPT pretty restrictive to make sure we were being careful with mental health issues. We realize this made it less useful/enjoyable to many users who had no mental health problems, but given the seriousness of the issue we wanted to get this right.

Now that we have been able to mitigate the serious mental health issues and have new tools, we are going to be able to safely relax the restrictions in most cases.

In a few weeks, we plan to put out a new version of ChatGPT that allows people to have a personality that behaves more like what people liked about 4o (we hope it will be better!). If you want your ChatGPT to respond in a very human-like way, or use a ton of emoji, or act like a friend, ChatGPT should do it (but only if you want it, not because we are usage-maxxing).

In December, as we roll out age-gating more fully and as part of our “treat adult users like adults” principle, we will allow even more, like erotica for verified adults.

Performatively reading in the cafe, but wearing white gloves so I'm still venerating the Book As Object, with a t-shirt saying "I know archivists don't wear gloves" so people know the gloves are performative.

It’s Cycle to School Week …but here’s why it really isn’t:

Europa #FRideDays #Bikebus is finished til next term, so take a look at an alternate route we tried.

Neither road nor narrow 'shared path' is ideal for encouraging modal shift along an increasingly congested A415. 🚴🚴🚴

Thanks @greenpartyemma.bsky.social for being our special guest on this ride! 🌟💚🌟

I take my children to school in a double-decker bus just in case I need to invite fifty of them for tea afterwards.

Actually that sounds like a great idea, but not when every other parent does the same.

It's true - as soon as you buy a bike, it's compulsory to use it for every journey.

You couldn't make it up!

Compulsory purchase? It looks like quite a liability. But maybe the council could move into it instead of a Saxon barn …

That's somewhat reassuring!

This is one of the new 'side road entry treatments' on Banbury Road (at St Margaret's Road).

It's a beautifully level invitation to pedestrians ... and a beautifully unmarked invitation to drivers 🤷
