St Jerome was careful about which Latin word for love was most appropriate given the context of the Gk or Hebrew. The Canticle of Canticles is one of the few places in the OT where he chooses “caritas”.

The only way forward for the Church is to strive to be where Christ is, and he is with the poor, for whom the Passion of Christ, the scourging, the rejection, the intimidation and cruelty are lived daily in the flesh.
We have to ask to see him, and that is a matter of the heart.
