Coronal northern lights, Iceland. All of a sudden, an aurora bursts right above your head. Particles paint the sky in color and motion. Always impressive.

At first sight, one might think that this is a middle spotted woodpecker due to its red crown. However, it has a black moustache stripe which the species doesn't have. Turns out that this is a young great spotted woodpecker. Their crown turns black with age.

Jewelled lizards are endemic in southwestern Europe only. I found this one in the Pyrenees. It is one of the largest lizards and can grow to up to 2ft in length.

A red rainbow is a rare phenomenon. It's basically a #rainbow at sunrise or #sunset, where only the red light remains visible. This photo was taken on the very day where nearby Luxemburg was hit by a tornado.

Chapel high above the Mosel river valley (in the background, covered by fog) in Oberbillig, Germany (border to Luxemburg). Built 1848 by philantropists, according to the old stone plate at the entrance. Renovated 2007.

Thanks 🙏 It‘s actually all in cam, using a special technique where you set a slow shutter speed like maybe 1/10s and move the cam vertically when you push the button. Might take a few tries but definitely worth it. Keep an eye on a good assembly of thin and high (conifer) trees for the best effect.
