i am once again yelling: our world would not be like this if enough people had played at LEAST the first hour of Megaman Battle Network
The AWS outage bricked people's $2,700 smartbeds, leaving them in a reclining position or with the heat up. People were unable to use them, basically. A GitHub repo exists that lets people operate their beds without reliance on the normal infrastructure

The AWS Outage Bricked People’s $2,700 Smartbeds
When Amazon Web Services went offline, people lost control of their cloud-connected smart beds, getting stuck in reclined positions or roasting with the heat turned all the way up.

is there anything marc silk wouldn't be in?
the thing about playing british developed games from the 2000s is you're constantly being assaulted by That Guy From That Thing
i finished 55 videogames last year, now i'm up to 50 with 2 months remaining. quietly wondering if i can hit 60.
the default options are actually annoying enough that i wonder how many people playing this port on emulators judge it on those bad defaults. one more for the pile of games that improve once you read the damn manual i guess.
last thing i'd say is it'd be nice if the options menu had explainations for what things like "lockspring" and "aiming lock" mean since auto-aim is also an option. but that's why i get actual copies of games since it's all explained in the manual

lockspring is basically autocentering, turn that off
mostly because the biggest dangers are one-hit kills like grenades and enviromental hazards. no dynamic difficulty can do shit about those. didn't ever feel really frustrated until the final chapter though which is one frustrating sequence after another on permanently low health.
its a good story too, a lot of noir tropes but fully aware of itself. paced well, knowing when to throw in a different feeling set piece to break up the standard shooting. the dynamic difficulty is a nice idea but i don't think works as well as it could.
the framerate issues exist, but they're no worse than the half-life port which is held up as a glorious achievement. i definitely appreciate the game more now than i did back then, now i actually have the mental capacity to follow the story.
its not a terrible port. it's not an amazing all-timer port but if people will accept the xbox port of half-life 2 they can accept this. if it was your only way to play the game at the time you weren't getting screwed over.
this is a game i've been planning to replay for a long time but kept putting off, first i was going to play it on the XP PC, then the xbox since that was the version i played as a 13 year old, then the ps2 project started and i settled on doing that port.

in all its infamy.

as a basic grounding point for the series to build off it's fine, though i'm very happy to be moving onto DW3 once i'm done with the current month's games. probably will play that game's demo a few more times too in the meantime.
no alternate weapons, no real metagame outside battles, just keep restarting until your stats are high enough to not get one-combo'd by the first general of the third map. or until your bodyguards are strong enough to finish the map for you. that third map is the hump, maps 4+5 were much easier
its dynasty warriors at its most basic, obviously since this is effectively the first game in the series. DW1 doesn't count. press square a lot, marvel at how it holds a smooth 50fps despite having 40-50 guys on screen at once, try not to think about how much it expects you to restart to build stats
in this case the finished criteria is "finished one faction's campaign" because holy shit is it a grind despite only being 5 actual battles each from a pool of 7. this is basically just a proof of concept/tech demo for koei's patented "holy shit look how many mooks we can get on screen" technology
