This is of course true only to the extent that the show engages with Argentine politics and history, which is…not much lol

My hot take on the big-deal Evita revival in London (which I did see, located as it is at the intersection of my gay interests in musicals and Latin America) is that it weirdly implies that Evita wouldn’t have died so tragically if Perón hadn’t resisted Britain’s informal imperialism in Argentina.

A statue, along the River Liffey in Dublin, of William Brown (1777-1857), “founding father” of the Argentine Navy who “defended Argentina against Brazil” according to the plaque on the base, written in English and Spanish. If Wikipedia is to be believed, this was in the Battle of Juncal in 1827.

MSCL’s main character, Angela Chase, is both loved and abhorred for her over-analyzing. Her fraught monologues have been read as both the center of the show’s relatability & as whining and entitled. @cmceleney.bsky.social probes this ambivalence in "A Lover’s Discord" post45.org/2025/05/a-lo...

The only time I ever saw him speak, in 2010, he gave a terrible speech about how European cultures were simply superior to those of the global south. But Conversación en la catedral still blew my mind. He was an independent thinker like no other, I’ll give him that. elpais.com/cultura/2025...

Reading my brilliant colleague @zeinmurib.bsky.social ‘s well-researched piece about repeated efforts by the gay and lesbian movement to sideline trans people (and the consequences of that sidelining today) is a great way to spend 5 minutes of your day today: slate.com/news-and-pol...
Why Are Trans People Such an Easy Political Target? The Answer Involves a Surprising Culprit.

Wow. Wow. We were so optimistic that those donors weren’t attaching any strings for their “generosity.” Hasn’t turned out as planned. I wonder what kind of pressure Lutnick will start to put on Haverford, if any
