Today I was reminded of a piece written by a member of the Federal Reserve Board in 2021. In a footnote of extreme lucidity, he states that 'the primary role of mainstream economics in our society is to provide an apologetics for a criminally oppressive, unsustainable, and unjust social order.' 🙃

Trump and his team know what they're doing. Well, they know at least as much as the orthodox macroeconomist. They just choose to play the game differently. There is little that is rational about the financial capitalism game though. They are as 'stupid' as the rest of them.

He does. I was hoping Davies would also draw on V's analysis of the purpose of Trump's tariffs. It would be difficult to reconcile it with his argument though.

I struggle to see what is useful about this analysis by Davies. Yes, Trump is as thick as granite, but there is a team of not-so-clueless advisers behind the scenes. I'd opt for barbarism over an 'outsourcing of judgement.' Varoufakis makes a more compelling case in my view: youtu.be/f1CdbCsetpw?...
