"That was the whole point of the event. It had nothing to do with improving our national security and military readiness. It was a role-play session for undeserving straight, white guys who could never hack it and resent those who could."

And a celebration of them.

There's warmth and humor and confidence in the characters that dominate her filmography after 1990 that's come to my mind all day.

At least for me, a paradox of Diane Keaton is that the bulk of her most critically-acclaimed and iconic roles came before the '90s--all fantastic performances, no doubt--and yet, if you made me choose, I'd strongly prefer the latter half of her career.

I litigated cases against giants that fell when the tech bubble burst and I have seen this coming from miles away. It’s going to be a bloodbath.

"Sceptics are privately - and some now publicly - asking whether the rapid rise in the value of AI tech companies may be, at least in part, the result of what they call 'financial engineering'. In other words - there are fears these companies are overvalued."
A tangled web of deals stokes AI bubble fears in Silicon Valley
Some are worried that the rapid rise in the value of AI tech companies may be a bubble waiting to burst.

You could have given me a thousand guesses on which celebrity death would come today, and not one of them would have been the great Diane Keaton.

If someone tells you the Economics Prize isn't a Nobel, they're trying way too hard to be something -- I don't know what but they're annoying and you should ignore them.

"The Economics Prize isn't an actual Nobel Prize."

Yes, it is. It's done through the same nomination and selection process, announced alongside the other Nobel Laureates, and presented at the same awards ceremony. It is 100% a Nobel Prize.

It's really sad how people struggling to free or defend their countries, like Zelensky and this woman, have to repeatedly debase themselves in front of this man because there is no longer any responsible leader of the Free World.

Trump: "The person who actually got the Nobel Prize called today, called me, and said 'I'm accepting this in honor of you, because you really deserved it.' A really nice thing to do. I didn't say 'Then give it to me, though.'"

C-SPAN caller to Mike Johnson: "Hearing you say that 'everyone is smiling' in cities where troops have been rolled into feels dystopian and insane watching the response to it."

EL PASO — a family says ICE showed up at their house looking for migrants and shot and KILLED THEIR DOG, then didn’t help them as the agent ran away and was not identified.

Gosh, if only there were a national organization that's dedicated to specifically advocating for gay Republicans and could push back within the GOP against Winsome Earle-Sears for her attacks on gay marriage and employment protections.

Wait... isn't that Log Cabin Republicans?

David Simon, creator of ‘The Wire’, being interviewed by Ari Shapiro (NPR)
SHAPIRO: OK, so you've spent your career creating television without Al, and I could imagine today you thinking, boy, I wish I had had that tool to solve those thorny problems...
SIMON: What?
SHAPIRO: ...Or saying...
SIMON: You imagine that?
SHAPIRO: ...Boy, if that had existed, it would have screwed me over.
SIMON: I don't think Al can remotely challenge what writers do at a fundamentally creative level.
SHAPIRO: But if you're trying to transition from scene five to scene six, and you're stuck with that transition, you could imagine plugging that portion of the script into an Al and say, give me 10 ideas for how to transition this.
SIMON: I'd rather put a gun in my mouth.

I don't trust her, either. But if she wants to speak out against Trump and the GOP, I encourage it.

Marjorie Taylor Greene just said the Republican Party is “getting destroyed” during this government shutdown as they refuse to protect health care.

“Everyone’s just getting destroyed... Republicans, you have no solutions... It is hurting so many people.”

For what it's worth, the Nobel Peace Prize was decided weeks ago. Trump and his team know that. They know he's not going to get it. But announcing this deal right before the new laureate will be revealed allows him to play a victim and pretend it's rigged.

I think it's great! I also feel bad because my paid subscribers deserve more than the ability to comment, but that's all I got. You just can't make everyone happy, no matter what you do.

This morning, a gentleman sent me an annoyed email because although my blog is free to read and free to subscribe, he was upset that a paid subscription is required to comment on the blog. I don't have paywalls because some folks can't afford them. But that's not enough. Good lord, the entitlement.
